The award-winning, heritage-listed cottage was built in one day in 1916. It will be open to the public on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14 from 12.30 to 2pm. Admission is free. BUSSELTON SCOUTS : The writer was surprised to see the surname "TYLER" on the relocated scout hall now in the grounds of Busselton's Historical Railway Station. Interested to hear any information about this person and his time spent within the scout movement so it can be added to the family tree. Last week's entry seeking information by the same writer about the Rev. Catterall — also connected to Busselton's scouting movement — had an incorrect contact address — compiler's error. CLAREMONT RAILWAYS : Australia's "premier preserved railway signal cabin", which now operates as a working museum, will celebrate its centenary on October 14. The Claremont Museum invites past employees of the Claremont station and signal cabin as well as all those who have a special connection to the railways at Claremont to attend this special event. Volunteers are needed on the day and memorabilia, photographs and stories are eagerly sought for use in an exhibition afterwards. The Commonwealth Gazette lists his retirement date as September 20,1925. However, the annual report of the Postmaster-General notes he retired on January 21,1925. Many were "granny" midwives with no formal training. If your ancestor or kinswoman was one of these wonderful people living in that area who assisted mothers giving birth under often dreadful circumstances, please forward the name together with any information and details of when and where they lived. Martin came out from Ireland to the Kalgoorlie Goldfields in the early 1890s with his brothers Thomas and Festus. In the mid-1890s, Martin and Thomas became policemen. On retirement, Martin bought into Bohemia Downs Station in the Kimberley and Thomas had a farm in the Mt Barker area. Martin died in 1937 and Thomas died in 1942. Contact: Mrs. P. Edward Mos*s died in September 1947. He left behind a brother, Herbert (of Queensland), sister, Amelia (Adelaide), nephew F. A. S. MOSS and nieces Dorothy and Marjory RICHARDSON. Also, the BROAD family, who lent notes on Dr KELSALL to the author of Making Tracks in the Midlands. He may have had a music-teacher daughter who lived in Falls Road, Lesmurdie. UNKNOWN FIREMAN : Wednesday, March 21,2007 will be the centenary of a special rescue train which departed from Perth station at 2.50pm on Thursday, March 21, 1907 en route to Coolgardie. The train was carrying two deep sea divers from Perth and vital rescue equipment — including 250m of airhose — to save an entombed miner. Modesto VARISCHETTI was trapped underground in a rise above Level 10 of the flooded Westralia Mine at Bonnievale, 11km north of Coolgardie. Travelling in relay in a race against the clock, locomotive R228 first hauled the train from Perth to Northam. R174 then hauled it from Northam to Southern Cross, and locomotive EC246 hauled the final leg from Southern CrQss to Coolgardie. R228 was driven by Andy RAMAGE but the fireman is unknown. R174 was driven by Len MACHIN and fired by Mick GRIFFIN, and EC246 was driven by Vic LANYON and fired by Herb HARRY. The train made the journey in 11 hours 44 minutes and the record time was held by this train for almost 50 years.
