This year there will be an additional Special Quiet Lion tour while a film crew put the finishing touches to a documentary they have been making since 1987. The tour will run from November 26 until December 7. Cost for twin-share adults is $2300 (but less for juniors). The ex-POWs bill it as: "The story of a hero which teaches you how to be one." But add: "Conditions apply." Those on the tour will learn from people who were there the reason that Weary DUNLOP was "the King of the River". They will visit campsites where he invigorated moribund and apathetic administrations and persuaded officers to donate part of their pay to provide special diets for sick and dying men denied regular rations by their captors. They will also meet some of the 58 young Thai surgeons who have worked with Australian mentors since the ex-POWs initiated the Weary Dunlop-Boonpong Exchange Fellowship in Perth in 1986.
