Ernest lived in Esperance and Safety Bay and had a brother and sister. The CAMPBELLs came to Carnarvon in 1882. Robert CAMPBELL (1842-1909) sold Boologooro to his son Harry and wife Maud (nee WILSON) in 1906. COUNTRY CALLING SHIRE OF WEST ARTHUR/DARKAN : The Darkan Townsite was gazetted 100 years ago this year and the Shire of West Arthur is holding a Centenary Ball to celebrate. All those who have lived in the shire or have a connection are invited to attend the ball to be held in the Shire Town Hall on Saturday, April 1 at 7.30pm. Old time dancing and supper. The family moved from Victoria to WA about 1900 and the writer hopes to hear from WA relatives. He emigrated to Australia in 1887 and married Martha Eliza WELLMAN in Perth in 1898. But Martha died in 1903 and William seems to have vanished. His marriage certificate records him living in Midland Junction and his occupation as blacksmith. Did William marry again? Does he have any descendants? The DRIVER family has been traced back to 1685 and the only missing person is William. Robert and Hannah were married in Adelaide in 1844. They had nine children: Martin, William, Selina, Ellen, Thomas, Harry, Anne, Joe and Mary Jane. Ellen married Ulysses James SMITH and they too had nine children. Tragedy struck when Ulysses took a herd of horses across to WA. Ellen with her nine children left Quorn and travelled by ship to join him only to find her husband had died of typhoid before she arrived. George arrived in Fremantle Harbour aboard the SS Australind from London on October 13, 1910 at the age of 17. In 1915 he married Eva Evelyn WALKER at Inglehope in the South-West and they had eight children: George (1915), Shelah (1916), John (1918), Eva (1919), Harry (1921), Robert / (1923), Maurice (1925) and Lyle (1929). Thomas was born about 1861, son of Johann REUTER. He married Selma Lydia MUEHLBERG in 1888 and lived in Lobethal where they had four children. SOUTH PERTH HISTORICAL SOCIETY : Noel DAWKINS AM will talk about growing up in South Perth in the "Glory Days" at the society's next event at the Old Mill Theatre, Mends Street, South Perth on Monday, March 20 at 7pm. Noel was a baby in 1929 when his parents Norman and Josephine and their three older sons took up residence in their new War Service home in South Perth. Noel developed a close relationship with the river initially as a sea scout and in 1946 as a foundation member of the then South Perth Yacht Club. ARMED SERVICES ANZAC COTTAGE : Heritage-listed, Anzac Cottage at 38 Kalgoorlie Street, Mt Hawthorn is Australia's first Gallipoli War Memorial and was built in one day in 1916. FREMANTLE SOLDIERS : A World War I honour roll for the Fremantle Municipal Tramways & Electric Lighting Board has recently been uncovered in the framed photo collection at the City of Fremantle. It was possibly given to the collection when the Tramways board closed down. Information and a photograph are sought for each of the men whose names are on the board to be displayed in the Fremantle Town Hall on Anzac Day. George was killed in action in France on August 4, 1916 aged 24. A photo and bronze relief were displayed on the stage at Fremantle Town Hall during a McCREERY gathering in 1979. The writer would like to refer to some sections of the diaries — if they still exist. John MULQUEENY enlisted in the AIF in 1915 and was wounded on the Somme in April 1918. He returned to WA and took up a block at Lake Brown in the Mukinbudin area on January 1,1920. In 1935 he wrote to Dr Bean in Canberra referring to his war diary. John died in August that year. He and wife Maggie had no children and Maggie died in 1957. John's sister Joanna married John Williams and they had three children including John, who attended John Mulqueeny's funeral in Nungarin and Jenny, whose married name was SAMUELS. BESSIE WILMOTT : Information is sought about Bessie WILMOTT WX 3439 AANS (1913-1942). Bessie grew up in Gardner Street, Como before training as a nurse at Royal Perth Hospital. She joined the Australian Armed Nursing Service in 1940 and was posted to Malaya. Bessie was later killed in the Bangka Island Massacre on February 16,1942. Very little is known about Bessie, a notable member of the South Perth community. Any information would make a valuable contribution to the local studies collection of South Perth.
