In the appendices is a section describing the origins of the local street and road names. The story behind most of these titles has been discovered. Tel: 9888 1093. --- DAVEY : Richard Henry DAVEY and his wife Lavinia WHITFORD lived in the Kadina Wallaroo Mines area of South Australia. They had 19 children, including twins born in 1880 and triplets in 1881. Sadly these five babies died soon after birth. Six children settled in WA in the late 1800s: Mary Ellen (m. LINES), Lavinia (m. KRYWOOD), Elijah WHITFORD, Richard and Matilda MAY (m. DAVEY in Boulder 1901) and Lillian DAVEY, who married John McCLURE in Coolgardie in 1902. Lillian and John's children were Cyril (b. 1904, Menzies) and Lionel (1905, Bunbury). Matilda married William DAVEY and their son William was born in East Coolgardie in 1902. Most of those coming are descendants of Murty MURRIHY and Hannorah FRAWLEY. Their son John migrated to Australia on the Royal Standard with his wife Mary and two children from Liverpool on September 27, 1866. TOODYAY PHOTOGRAPH : : Toodyay Historical Society is anxious to locate a photograph once displayed in the visitors' centre of Connor's Mill operating as the town's powerhouse circa 1920s. It shows Norm GARVEY, powerhouse engine driver, dangling from the roofing timbers while treadling like mad on a flat traction belt to start a Stockport gas engine. Tel/fax 9574 5659. mailto:mumbo2j@yahoo.com.au TOWN HALL MYSTERY : As a child the writer was told a story by his father that the Perth Town Hall was built by convicts and that somehow they had changed the clock tower windows' shapes to resemble broad arrows. Apparently the people in charge never picked up the alterations until the work was too advanced and it was then thought it too expensive to rectify. Do the original drawings still exist to make a comparison? The architects were R. JEWELL and J. MANNING. There were 15 convicts working on the building and it's possible some of their descendants may have heard the story. Any information appreciated. They are descendants of Thomas WILKINS, who was born in Scotland from a seafaring family. Thomas was a bus conductor and died in Perth on August 23, 1965.
