On Henry's death in 1957, a notice from the British Settlers Association appeared in The West Australian above the name "H. BEALL, secretary", requesting members to attend the funeral. They came from Victoria and married in Boulder in 1911. Children included Rita and Edna. Winifred died in 1938 and her address at the time was Wray Street, Fremantle. Names mentioned in the family death notice were Mrs E. A. HAMILTON of Perth, sisters Mrs J. LOGAN (Mary), Mrs BRAMLEY (Elsie), Jean and brothers Dawson, Melville and Norman HAMILTON. Contact: Mrs N. He later became a South Australian and Test cricketer playing in a first-class career which spanned the years 1967 to 1981. Mallett writes from South Australia seeking information about his family history for his latest book. On December 17,1957 he was presented with a Gladstone bag and a cricket bat by staff and students at a North Inglewood Primary School assembly as a reward for being picked in the 1958 State schoolboys' cricket team. A photo that once hung in the foyer of school the suggests there may be relatives in Perth. Does anyone know what became of the photo? Also seeking other photos and any news cuttings that mention Mallett in relation to junior cricket and junior baseball. MUNDARING BUSHFIRE BRIGADES : Past members of these brigades that are no longer operational are sought for an oral history project: North Mt Helena (1948-1995), Helena Valley (1949-1981), Swan View (1949-1967), Greenmount (1950-1953), Mahogany Creek (1962-1972) and Inkpen (1973-1979). PLAIN ENGLISH SPEAKING AWARD : A box of photographs and negatives from the Plain English Speaking Award 1989, held in Brisbane, was donated to the Battye Library by an unknown person in 2003. It is believed WA representatives are featured in the photos. A letter addressed to "Susan" from the organisers is included. A second box of photographs, possibly of Country Week 1983, may have been donated by the same person. Any information would be appreciated. Hoping to hear from the donor. The museum already has the trolley but it remains a static exhibit until it can obtain a motor. These trolleys were made by LUTT BRYANT ENGINEERS, possibly in the Bassendean area, and played an integral part in maintaining the WAGR system. SEYMOUR / KELLY/ WITHERS : : Information is sought about descendants of Charles and Laura BOWDEN (nee Wainwright), who were married in South Australia and had 15 children. Three daughters settled in WA: (1) Emma Sussanah (b.1862) married Alexander SEYMOUR and had a daughter, Illerate in 1904 (m. PAULL); (2) Rosetta (b.1864) married Maxwell KELLY and had three sons including Oswald and Murray, and one daughter; (3) Eva married a Mr WITHERS and had a son and daughter who both served in World War II. The writer is compiling a biographical index of all World War I soldiers who were born in Albany and enlisted, and all who enlisted in Albany but were born elsewhere. The big project is planned to be completed in time for the 100-year commemorations in 2014. In a lot of cases he was able to not only identify the Boer owner of the weapon but could also identify the Australian soldier who brought the weapon back to Australia. The book was well received and a second volume is planned. The writer would like to hear from anyone who has a weapon of this type in their collection and is also seeking photos of the carvings and any serial numbers etc. Contact: Dave C. BCOF KIDS : The fourth annual reunion of BCOF Kids (children of armed service members of the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces who lived in Japan during the post-World War II occupation 1947-52) will be held at the Canberra RSL during the weekend of March 4-5, 2006. Mr WINTLE was employed by the Bureau of Meteorology during World War II. He monitored Japanese-controlled broadcasting stations and obtained P0W information. A story of his activities has just come to hand from a letter found by the grandson of a former prisoner-of-war of the Japanese which suggests there may be relatives in Perth.
