    3. Hello Everyone,I am new to the list and would be grateful for any help you could give me.My mother in laws surname was FURPHY and she came from Portadown,Co Armargh,Northern Ireland. She was 'adopted' by the Furphy family in aprox 1898.She had a brother called James Furphy who went to live in Scotland,[Clydebank i think]James had a daughter Kathleen who worked in the singer sewing machine factory there.Kathleen married Bill Lewis[at least i think his name was Lewis]and they had a son William.I have a photo of the three of them taken on 21st June 1954 in Perth with William aged 5yrs.Looking at the background of the photo i would believe it to be Perth Australia and not Scotland. If anyone does recognise this family i would love to hear from them,i am putting our family history together but can get very little from Ireland. My mother in law was Mary Furphy who married Patrick Davies in Portadown, but they also went to live in Wishaw,Scotland and my husband their youngest child [out of 12]was born there Suzanne South Wales,UK

    3. Hi Jenni, I can find no marriage of this couple in WA to 1905 or Vic to 1901. Do you have the birth of any children to this couple?? It is possible that they did not marry, but were partners. Perhaps their deaths may provide you with more info. 1. BLAKE Lookup please
    2. Estelle Daniels
    3. Hello List, I live in Qld and am new to this list. I am wondering if some kind person with access to WA indexes would mind checking if there is an Elizabeth B BLAKE. I suspect that the B could be for Barbara or Bridget. Her parents were Michael Blake and Barbara Sarah WATTS. Michael's mother was Bridget (I think!) Elizabeth was born in NSW (Bourke district) in 1884. She does not appear on any Q index as do her younger siblings. I have reason to believe that she may have gone to WA. She was my paternal grandmother's eldest half sister. I have no idea if she married or had any children, but perhaps her maiden name may show up on the birth of a child. Any ideas or advice much appreciated. 1. Unemployed men who went to Melbourne
    2. Hello everyone, I have recently launched a web site that lists some men who were registered as unemployed with the Labour Bureau in Melbourne in mid 1892. http://home.primusonline.com.au/jennyc/Melbourne/ This period was the middle of a severe depression in Victoria and many families moved around the country in search of work. Some had come from South Australia where years of devastating drought had caused a depression in the 1880s, just when Melbourne was having its famous land boom. Some moved on to seek their fortunes on Western Australia's goldfields, while others came from New South Wales although things economically were not as severe there as in other states. There are also some 'Taswegians'. The site is a work in progress with approximately 500 of the 4,000 families currently listed. If you find a name of interest, remember to click on the name even if no BDMs are given as other identifying info may be in the file notes. e.g. "last worked as a butcher in Maitland, NSW" or "just arrived in colony" or "six children - oldest a boy aged 15 yrs" or even "supports sister and her child". Of course please contact me if you find a family member. best wishes, Jenny Coates Melbourne's Unemployed in the 1890s http://home.primusonline.com.au/jennyc/Melbourne/
