    3. Hello to everyone. Could anyone help me to find any details in regard to the above named gentleman who came to Western Australia in the early 1900's. He bought land - possibly in the Margaret River area but had to go back to England because his wife had Diptheria. I am trying to help someone who always helps others and has been a terrific help to me in my research. Any details would be appreciate. Regards, Shirley. Victoria.

    1. [AUS-WA] ACKLAND
    2. Nel Iliffe
    3. Hello Listmembers, I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has an interest in Ackland family history. Specifically, at this moment, I am seeking information on, or descendants of, the following people, but I would like to hear from any Ackland researchers. 1/. John Barnes Ackland came to Australia in 1877. He married Edith May Randell in South Australia in 1882. (Children were born in South Australia.) According to the Western Australia Directory (Wise's), in 1898 John Barnes Ackland was at Medindie, 40 Bennett St., East Perth; 1899-1903 at Mount St., Claremont; 1903-1910 at Throssell, Son & Stewart, Northam; 1911-1917, farmer, Wongan Hills . Both John and his wife evidently died in Western Australia after 1917. Nothing is known of their descendants. 2/. George Hugh Ackland came to Australia 1886/7. He married Jane Penman in Queensland in 1887. (Children were born in Queensland.) After returning from a trip to England in 1900, George moved to New Zealand. Presumably he died in NZ, but it is possible that there are descendants in Western Australia. John and George were brothers, born in England. Their parents were Thomas & Mary (nee Barnes). Any comments or help will be greatly appreciated, Nel

    1. William George Nash - marriage 1940 ish
    2. Robert Parker
    3. Hi I understand the microfiche for marriage records for WA, in the 1940's have been released. Would anyone have access to these and mind looking for a marriage record? Full details: I am currently researching an Australian ancestor, William George Nash. I have found a service record for him through the NAA detailing his enlistment in Claremont , Perth . On the service record are a number of interesting and new facts for us (indeed this is the first record we have seen of William since he stopped writing to his mother just after the second world war). Details from service record: Source: National Archives of Australia, series B883, item number WX21541. Australian Military Forces, Attestation form, Army No. WX21541, Nash, William George, Unit: General Reinforcements W. Commd. General Details Camp, Clarement. State: Western Australia. Date: 15.4.1942. Date of Birth: 18.7.04. Married 2?.11.1942. Who is actual next of kin: Hazel Sophronia? Nash, 11 Wright St, S or 5 Perth. Trade: Dairy Farmer. Pte. Nash, William George - 2/5 Inf Tps Ord Fd Pk. Date of discharge: 23.Feb 44 with regards, Robert Parker Even more detail follows... Hi I'm Robert Parker, married, living in Caterham, Surrey, UK. I work full time for the charity Save the Children UK as a Project Manager. I have been researching my family tree for about 6 years and have managed to get back to circa 1800 on the Parker side (not that easy as we Parker's are very common - in name!). After a trip to Switzerland to visit my aunt I am keen to research my Nash connections. I also have Australian connections with the name Hatton (my grand father John Edward Hatton having been born on 6 5 1894, in Hawthorne, Melbourne). Currently I am looking for William George Nash The following leads are all I have from ‘hazy’ family memories: William George Nash went to Africa and/or the gold coast and emigrated to Perth in 1925. I (Robert Parker) couldn't find any trace of him in Perth Central Library, Australia in two attempts (1992 and 2000). He had a son Martin (born 9.8.1947). William (or Martin) was fair haired, wife a school teacher. I have a photo of William and Martin. William left the family when Martin was 5 years old. During the war the family sent food parcels to Doris Nash (my grandmother, William’s sister), including sweets, sausages and honey. Then Doris (and the family) lost touch. Any suggestions for trying to trace these ancestors through any local newspapers or Australian based researchers or other resources gratefully received

    1. Yesterdays updated
    2. Michael spencer
    3. Hi list, I appreciate for those with no connections it will not be all that relevant but for those with British ancestry, the Yesterdays site contains thousands of names of folks many of whom were strays or strangers, away from their recognised abode or expected parish. The Settlement Certificates and particularly the Settlement Examinations give a good account of what can be found in Record Offices and if you have any such overseas connections with the UK they are well worth the effort in trying to see if such a document(s) survives for your ancestors, particularly if they have "moved". It may be they are even within this list, but if not, it still gives a good idea of what can be found in their respective parishes and County Record Offices. Bastardy records may name the father, Apprenticeships let you know who the young lads and lasses went to serve, some as young as seven years. There may be instances of Apprentices running away because of cruelty on behalf of the Master. Removal documents record those folks who fell on hard times and were removed back to their last legal Settlement. Thousands were moved all over the Country. mike http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
