Hello listers I have just discovered the details of some ancestors buried at Karrakatta. Is there anyone willing to check for headstones and transcribe them if I give you the grave deatails? Coming from Brisbane, I doubt I'll ever get the chance to visit, unfortunately. Please email me off-list if you can help. Thanks very much Kerrie.
Hi all. I have just joined the list seeking information/descendants of two BAGSHAW brothers who were born in Preston Lancs and emigrated to Western Australia. Walter BAGSHAW was born 9 March 1884 and Alfred Edward BAGSHAW was born in December 1889. Both brothers served for Australia in BOTH world wars. Their WWI war records can be seen on the Record Search Australia site. Walter married Annie Dorothy CROSS in Lancashire 9 October 1916. Annie died in 1988 in Leederville and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery. Alfred Edward was never married, it appears, and died 1980 in North Perth. He also is buried at Karrakatta. Anyone connected to this family please contact me so we can share information. I can take this family back to 1760. Vern Prescott Ontario, Canada

Can anyone help with one of my brickwalls? I have an Elsie Emma STEPHENS travelling to Australia about August 1899, by family myth to marry her cousin? BUT she met Daniel Joseph Quinn, an itinerant journalist on the boat. They both got off at Perth although Daniel had a ticket to Sydney where he sometimes worked.. He stayed 6 months with her then went off to Sydney. After another 6 months she joined him and they married the day her boat docked. After that I have heaps of info about them both. BUT her family is proving very stubborn! So far I have her parents marriage at St Mary's church, Lambeth, near London, UK on 6 March 1873. Edward STEPHENS, of full age, bachelor, gentleman, residence St Martins in the fields, father John Stephens deceased, printer and publisher Eliza Robinson, minor, spinster, res. Kennington Road, father Reuben Robinson, gentleman After banns. both signed the register, witnesses were Reuben Robinson and Jane (Robinson?) And Elsie Emma's birth certificate: registration district of Lambeth 1876 in sub district Kennington 2nd. in Surrey no. 284, 3rd May 1876, 23 St Martins Road, Elsie Emma, girl, father Edward Stephens, mother Eliza Stephens formerly Robinson, father occupation a gentleman, informant Mary Robinson, present at birth address 87 Kennington Road, Lambeth, registered 7 Sept 1876. That was the easy bit! Now comes the brickwall! I can find no trace of this family on the 1881 census of UK. I can find no trace of his ever being a British doctor. I can find no trace of his father John Stephens. An additional clue which mentions her grandfather but NOT her father (odd that!): Her husbands 1950 entry in the NSW Who's Who, Australia: QUINN Daniel Joseph Journalist b. John Stephens, original ed. and propr. Register Adel; Recreations travel, reading Address, 12 Rockwall Crescent, Potts Point, NSW I've scoured lists of printers, editors, publishers etc both in UK and Australia to no avail. I guess her father Edward Stephens originated in Australia and left UK for there after her birth??? Maybe some to-ing and fro-ing after that until her marriage in 1900? Edward and John Stephens are just too common as names in UK to get a real fix on this family but maybe someone in Australia recognises this family. Long shot? Val Roper in Bahrain

Hi I have just found on the web a mention to a TEX HOINVILLE animal trainer. It says he was born in Texas and seems to have had some links with the Lennon Brothers circus in the 1970's in Australia I also think he spent time with Wirth's Circus or Ashton's Circus in the 1950s. (I have tried the circus list) I have been tracing the HOINVILLE family for years but have no idea who Tex was. Does any one know any thing about him? Thanks Lyn Sussex UK

Hello List, I know that this isn't genealogy, but I would like to wish everyone a very Merry and safe Christmas. Thankyou to anyone who may have helped me out throughout the year. Yvonne
Hi Listers! I am new to the list and I thought I would post the Prussian or German surnames I am interested in. All of these emigrated to Australia from the 1840s on. I am tracing the descendents of Anton von WIADROWSKI who came from Posen in Prussia, that are now living in Western Australia and South Australia. He fled Prussia because of the forceful enlistment of men into the Prussian army to fight the war against Sweden and eventually made his way to Adelaide in South Australia in the 1870s. He had an uncle by the name of Witkowski who persuaded him to convert from Catholicism to Lutheranism. He then met his future wife Ida KUMNICK whose family had arrived ( I don't yet know their names) from Posen in 1849 (I think). He the re-married (to a Thamm), after she died, and I think it was a daughter from that marriage called Peggy that settled in Perth eventually after marrying a LESCHEN. Anyone with information about descendents, please contact me. Merry Christmas!! Regards Chris Schmidt [email protected]
