Hi Jane and Roger, Thanks for your reply. I have been reading this list and have seen people ask questions about the Can you help? column and (it must be a sign of the heat here in South Australia, or age, or both!) HI, I have been sitting on the sidelines and looking at your Rowe enquires. I have a cousin married to a John Rowe here in WA. I know nothing about his family history but if you want me to give him a call I will. He would be in his 60's and is an ex teacher. Or you could just see what comes out of your query in the can you help. He may even respond. Hi Vern, I hope you have the same success I had with the WA can you help? column. I found my father-in-law's cousin at 6am the day the add was published. We had no idea of her age, we knew she was younger than my f.i.l, only her maiden name and the rumour she had come to WA during the second world war to marry a wheat farmer! I also got help from WAGS (Western Australian Geological Society Inc.) e-mail: [email protected] website: http://www.wags.org.au What a thrill it was to visit her last November, she was 83 years old. Hello Erica, I'm from the UK, would it also be appropriate for me as well? Ancestors of mine by the name of MADGEN/MADGIN emigrated to the Perth area in the 1820s+ from the North of England, and I would love to find any descendants. :Absolutely appropriate. I will send you a copy of last week's column privately so you can see what it offers. >Good luck.......... Erica > >>Thanks for posting the "Reunions" column. Hi Erica Thanks for posting the "Reunions" column. It also indicates there is a "Can You Help" column. What kind of stuff is in that column? Two of my mother's cousins went to Perth WA early 1900's. I would like to try to get in touch with any descendants? Would a "Seeking descendants of ..." message in that column be appropriate? Vern in Ontario
Archibald HARPER was my grandfather's half brother. He left Orkney about 1875 (age 20) for the gold fields, then settled in Pt. Adelaide where a son (also Archibald) was born in 1880. This Archie married in Perth in 1904 and had a son Archibald about 1907 who, I believe, at one time worked for the Fremantle Harbour Trust. I would be interested in discovering more about this Aussie connection - including any cousins who might be out there. Sharon Ontario, Canada
Hi All, This email is important and we need to act now as the following may effect all Australian Cemeteries if we let this happen.... we only have just over a week to stop all our ancestors graves from being removed I have just watched with dismay the feature on A Curent Affair in regards to the removal of War Graves in Centennial Park in South Australia. Although the feature is on War Graves, the 50 year tenure is on ALL memorial graves within the cemetery and 25 year tenure on ashes. Generally in SA if a licence has expired and not been extended the remains (usually bones and other artefacts such as rings, the name plate from the coffin) are respectfully removed and placed in an ossuary (bone) box. The grave is then deepened and the box re-interred at the bottom of the grave. The monument is removed and the grave is available for issue of a new licence. We have to the end of this month to send submissions, opposing this ludicrus decision. I am calling on all GENEALOGIST, FAMILY HISTORIANS, RESEARCHERS AND ANYONE ELSE to prepare a letter of objection and to send it to me at P.O.Box 87 Yarragon 3823 If possible could you send two copies - All those recieved will be sent via registed mail to the Prime Minister and the other copy to the the Chairman of the committee in the SA Parliment who will be taking submissions. (I am awaiting the official title of the Chairmans name from ACA) HELP SAVE THE MEMORY AND MEMORIALS OF ALL OUR ANCESTORS Don't just think about it, every letter will assist and for the sake of 50c for a stamp, if we unite we can stop this. ***************************************** Dianne. Hi Everyone Walter BAGSHAW was born in Preston March 9, 1884. He emigrated to Western Australia where he served in both World Wars. His service records show that he was a Goldsmith and Jeweller when he enlisted in 1940. He lived at 38 Douglas Avenue, South Perth, Western Australia when he enlisted but by March 16, 1944 had moved to 38 Elizabeth Street. Would these addresses still exist? If they exist, would anyone out there be able to get a photo for me? Would there be any information available about his business (assuming here that he had his own business which might not be true). Would there be a trade directory which would list him? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Vern in Ontario, Canada
