Hi All, I am trying to figure out why Ellen GARLAND should arrive at Fremantle as a new immigrant, and a few months later marry Tom (Thomas Joseph Grantala) BROOKES in Bencubbin. The marriage was on 18th December 1926, and was (according to memory half a century later) the first marriage at the recently built St Marks Church of England. Perhaps bridegroom Tom was working in Bencubbin. He and his bricklayer father did allegedly move around the state building - eg Como change-rooms, Albany High School, and the brick chimneys on the Railway cottages along the East/West railway line (crossing the Nullabor). Any suggestions? Does anyone know of a Bencubbin historical society? Regards, Tom Hobart
