    2. Robert Randall
    3. Hello List, Just like to give an update on my Evander Cameron MCMILLAN, to sit in the archives along with my previous query about him - it may help another future researcher. I have purchased his death certificate, which has confirmed that he was the son of John MCMILLAN, publican and Mary HUNT. [He was born Melbourne 1846] He was a labourer, and died at the Old Men's Home, Claremont. It was stated that he had been in WA for 19 years, birthplace unknown. In the marriage/issue section , it was ruled through - no indication that the info was unknown or not applicable. Burial records from Karrakatta indicate that he was buried in a pauper's grave, two others buried prior to him in 1917, William WILSON and Malcolm STEWART both from Claremont. I am looking for any children born in WA for Harry and Alice Elizabeth Sherburn( Hall), who were married in Melbourne in 1930. Harry died in 1954 in Perth. Is there anyway to look up the records both for any children and if Alice remarried and if she died in WA it would be under a different name? I would be grateful for any help, Ray Thorne

    1. [AUS-WA] My Interests
    2. Leona Smithurst
    3. Hi, I have just joined this List. The names I am researching are John "Jack" Francis WHEELER, who married Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM sometime in the early 1900's. Jack worked for the Railways, he was a splitter, and supplied timber for the sleepers. Sorry, I know that is awfully vague, I have just 10 days ago found out that "Jack" WHEELER, whom I had been told (by my Mother) had married Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM in England. Had in actual fact (another 'family' tale) married Elsie in West Australia, maybe Perth, and that their first child was Phyllis Anne born about 1912. Phyllis Anne married James Henry BAKER, 1933, I have had contact with 2 of their children. I might add, it is only since February 2003, yes, just 4 months ago, that I made the discovery of the parents of Phyllis Anne, I had known her and her husband and 2 of their 6 children about 1943, but had not known that my Mother's relative an older lady who visited us and I knew during my young years, was actually Phyllis' Mother. Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM was born in Rushworth, Victoria in 1892, the last child of her parents, her Father had been killed in a mining accident just a few months before she was born, there were some 6 or 7 other children, of which my Maternal Grand-mother was the third eldest. So, if anyone knows anything about WHEELER and/or SOUTHAM, I'd love to hear from you. And, if there is anything recorded anywhere regarding Railways and Railway workers I'd very much like to know about it. Thanks to everyone, Leona Smithurst, in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

    1. [AUS-WA] Trying to find arrival of Editha BARR
    2. Gay Ritter
    3. Morning Listers, I am trying to find when Editha Mary BARR (b) 1883 Portsmouth, England wouls have been first recognised as being in Western Australia, probably around Fremantle, I cannot find her arrival, the first we have heard of her was when she gave birth to her daughter Cicely BARR May 1904 Fremantle, the father was listed as Henry PASCOE. Mary then met Richard RITTER, and married him in Fremantle 1905 and there son Stanley RITTER was born Nov 1905 Fremantle. At some time after that, they went to South Australia, which was Richards home town. This is the story we have been given by family members re her arrival : Editha was supposed to have been sent to West Australia to relatives, because she was with child, the legend goes that it was on the boat where she met Richard, he boarded the "Essex" at Cape Town, on its way out from England, but the records show Editha was not on the "Essex", but we have found Richard on the list as boarding in Cape Town, Africa and leaving ship in SA 14 June 1904, but he soon packed up and went to Western Australia, where he married Editha. A son Stanley was born in Freemantle, and they then come to South Australia where they had another daughter, Hazel, 24 Oct 1908. We have the shipping list of the Essex of those that got off in South Australia, it did not stop in Fremantle untill on its way back to England, and Editha had had her child well before then. Are there any postal directories or enrolment records that are available for Western Australia for around that time peroid, and if so, who do I contact to find out about them, as it may give me an idea as to when she arrived, and when they left to go to South Australia. Also, wanting to find what transport they may have used to get to South Australia between 1905 and 1908. I live in Queensland. Hoping some one may be able to tell me what records I can search for this information please. Thanking you sincerly Gay Ritter [email protected]

    1. [AUS-WA] Winifred CASEMENTO
    2. Robert Randall
    3. Hi List, finally tracked down the correct Winifred FISHER, 2nd wife? of Albert. Any connections, anyone? Winifred was also known as Winifred CASEMENTO, passed away aged 83 on 20th March 1963; it is under this name that she was buried in the Karrakatta Cemetery. Albert died 1942, Winifred was still using the name Fisher when she corresponded with the Defence Dept in 1952. It was through purchase of Albert's burial application record that lead to this vital clue! [$A5.50] Winifred was the grantee of the grave, Alfred had been exhumed a few years after his death and moved to the War Graves. When I couldn't find any Fisher buried in this grave on the online records I used the email contact. I got a prompt and helpful reply telling me of Winifred's other name and she was buried alone in her plot. ChristineR Vic Aust
