Hi Lyn I have found that births are best if you get the youngest as it will then normally have the elder children on it plus the parents of course. The marriage licence doesn't always show the parents of the people getting married. And the death cet. depends to much on who the informant is as even though it can be the child this does not mean they know much about there parents pass life. I have found a lot of mistakes there. hi I prefer death certificates as they show the children as a rule a long with the wife and age and or length of time in the colony. Sometimes thi I have found thta as they move from home and parents die and many were illiterate by the time thye die no one knows who the parents were.... A marriage cert will give parents place of origin and age...of both folk being married. Birth gives parents place of origin and if you have a choice buy the cert of the youngest child as the others should be listed but often arnt..or just a number mentioned like 2 girls 1 boy. mmm I like trascripts as thye r a lot cheaper and a professional has had a chance to take the guess work out of some very very poor copies and also know many of the town lnds parishes etc....which leaves me wanting. There are two types (1) a FULL CERTIFICATE , which has the most details on, or (2) an EXTRACT, which has only parents names amd the persons name and date of birth, death or marriage. Dear Listers I cannot express the help that I have recieved when asking for a lookup...I ask for 'a piece of cake' but usually get the 'whole cake'. I don't know how all the listers do it but for one who has limited resources, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. cheers Lyn Something I would like to share with you. Dear Ancestor: Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist. You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. -Unknown

Dear Chris, Firstly, many thanks for your fast response, and for taking the time for checking. Unfortunately, Bertha May is not my connection. In some cases, family tree's have carry on Christian names... with Bertha ... it was uncanny to have her name, plus her second name which was that of her mother...along with Herbert being her father. Never mind... Thank you again Chris.. back to the drawing board.
