    3. For all those listers that have helped me, thank you. I would like to share another poem with you cheers Lyn I think that I shall never see, the finish of a family tree, as it forever seems to grow from roots that started long ago. Way back in an ancient time, in foreign land and distant clime, >From them grew trunk and branching limbs, that dated back to time so dim. One seldom knows exactly when, the parents met and married then; Nor when the twigs began to grow, with odd-named children, row on row. Though verse like this is made by me, the end's insight, as you can see. "Tis not the same with the family trees, that grow and grow through centuries. - Author unknown

    3. Hi Katherine I have found that some registrations are not on the Pioneer Index. My Grandmother is not there either born around the same time. However when I first started with my family tree one library I went to had a hand written set of indexes and she was on that. I would suggest you write to Birth Death and Marriages P.O Box 7720 Cloisters Square Perth West Aust and ask them to do a search. You will have to pay alittle extra but could be well worth it. 3. Hi, I am new to this list and hope some one can help me. We were always told that my father-in-law was born in Perth in November 1900. His parents were not married and when his father died in 1903 his mother returned to NZ with her older sons (from her marriage) and the 3 year old. He took her married name, and in his late teens signed a document saying that he was known by this name (Everton) and would continue to be so. We have never seen a birth certificate, and cannot find an entry in the Pioneers Index CD under either parents name (Everton and Rotheram) or any likely substitute such as mother's or either grandmothers' maiden names. I am sure that registration of births was compulsory by then in WA - but was this scrupulously observed? Were any checks made against doctors or midwives records? I don't know if he was baptised, but guess it would have been likely. The family lived in Mount St, Perth. Can anyone suggest churches local to there (father was C of E, mother ??), and tell me where the baptismal registers for these would be now. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in anticipation Katherine Everton Auckland, New Zealand

Subiaco is also an older suburb only a few ks west of the city also on the railway line (to Fremantle) and bounded on the other side by Kings Park and West Perth.
