I think the old recipe referred to involved making a ginger beer plant, which was kept fed and used to make more ginger beer each time. I know I have the recipe somewhere, tried it once or twice many moons ago, but haven't been able to lay my hands on it. I'll go Googling and see if the recipe for the plant is there.
