Joan Beaumont Dean of Arts Deakin University Dear Joan It is with regret that we received the news listed in the email below of the decommissioning of the South West Victoria's War History web site which was hosted by your faculty. I received this notification after enquiring to the IT Manager regarding its non-functioning for a number of weeks. We would be very interested to know the reasons for the loss of this valuable local history information site for south western Victoria. Is the information lost or is it being transferred to some other body to host in the future? I write a number of web sites related to south west history, eg Ballarat Genealogical Society http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/ South West Victorian History http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/digby/ which illustrate my interest and involvement in the area of local history in south west Victoria. It is to be hoped that a Faculty of Arts at a local University would be interested in promoting the study of local history through the hosting of such web sites. I have left the correspondence relating to this issue attached to the bottom of this email. Daryl Do you want to give us an email address/person to whom we can all express our disappointment if we so wish? We might manage to reverse a decision by weight of numbers. Hi Daryl, As far as I can remember, the Hamilton Historical Society homepage contained pretty well the same information as parts of the South West Victoria's War Heritage site (at least as far as Hamilton interests lay) - not sure. Check their new site - http://home.vicnet.net.au/~hamhist - and you can email them from there if needs be.
