    3. G'day Tricia and All, It would be very likely that an epidemic did occur as the returning troops from WW1 brought many such diseases back with them. One such nasty one was a severe flu epidemic which took the lives of many. The newspapers of the day sometimes reported on such things, this is where I would start to look for any clues.
