Hi all I have a marriage certificate of George SHAKESPEARE and Julia Belinda COOK from 1870 which gives the location of the marriage as "the residence of the groom, Jetty " and I've always assumed that "Jetty" was the name of a house. However I've just looked up the Warrnambool rate books for the 1870s and I see that there was an area of town called "Jetty Allotments". Can anyone confirm my current assumption that "Jetty" was (maybe is) a locality in Warrnambool? George Shakespeare ran the Steam Packet Hotel, which I'm told was on the site of the present Lady Bay Hotel. Would the LBH be at "Jetty" ? Regards Malcolm Ward [email protected] Sydney, Australia
