    3. >From the pen of Augustus Bostock, Grazier of Grasmere, near Warrnambool. This is the first time Augustus has recognised Mr.DREW as.......... T.DREW.... JULY 1863.. Wed 1 - ARNEL (Fred) absent. DREW (Mr.) tried to get in some of the pigs out of the back paddock. ATKINSON and myself went up to Coomete to see how everything was getting on up there. Came back the same evening. Weather very fine. Thu 2 - ARNEL (F) absent. Drew in pigs as they got through fence again, but did not succeed. WILSON (John) came and bought 31 pigs for £64/10/- C.O.D. to be taken in 3 days. Weather fine. Fri 3 - ARNEL (F) working in the garden. Put another yeard in far corner of paddock to get in pigs that were outside. Sent to DOY (Mr.) to see if he would take in pigs for WILSON (John). Weather showery. Sat 4 - DREW (Mr.) finished yard. Went to Warrnambool and stayed in town all night. JAMES AITKIN came down. Weather showery. Sun 5 - Went out to ERNEST'S (Bostock) to dinner. Stayed in town all night. Weather showery. Mon 6 - Heavy storm, wind and rain. two vessels went ashore in Warrnambool. Returned home. PALMER (O.F.W.) and myself went down to KOROIT to sale of cattle. Weather fearful. Tue 7 - DOY'S TEAM took part of the pigs WILSON (John). Went down to JELLIE'S SALE. Went into Warrnambool in the evening. JIMMY (B) and ATKINSON (Mr.) left for Coomete. Weather still bad. Wed 8 - Went to the BEACH to SALE of one of the WRECKS. DOY'S TEAM took in last of the pigs for WILSON (John). Returned home. DREW (Mr.) went to Warrnambool to meet people per the STEAMER but she didn't come in. FIRST FLOOD IN RIVER - still rising. Showery. Thu 9 - ARNEL (Fred) at work in the garden. DREW (Mr.) went into Warrnambool to meet his friends. Went round all the cattle and sheep on Grasmere. Went over to LATTA'S (William) about his pig. Weather showery. Fri 10 - DREW (Mr.) away in Warrnambool to meet friends by the steamer. Went into Warrnambool in the afternoon. Stayed all night at ERNEST'S (Bostock). MACKENZIE (Anthony) came down. Weather fine. Sat 11 - Attended meeting of the ROAD BOARD. Went to the Hopkin's River with MACKENZIE (Anthony) and others to try and catch some fish. Stayed in town all night. Settled with WILSON (John) for pigs. Weather fine. Sun 12 - Went out to ERNEST'S (Bostock) to dinner. Started with MACKENZIE (Anthony) for home, but obliged to stay and it rained hard. Mon 13 - Returned home before breakfast. B & Philip HELPMAN came with me and left for home after. Went to the township about getting potatoes from ARNEL'S (Fred). Called at DOY'S(Mr.) about hay and to tell him about MACKENZIE'S (Anthony) mare. Tried to get pigs out of back paddock, but only succeeded in getting in five of the large ones. Weather showery all day. Tue 14 - Spent the day trying to get in pigs. Only succeeded in getting in one which we ran down. Went round all cattle on Purnim. Went to MARGETT'S (Edward) about his sheep. Weather rain all day. Wed 15 - Got in more of the pigs but could not find the wildest mob. Went to Woodford to sale of fat cattle held by KNIGHT (Andrew Halley). Put two wild sows in the sty under the shed and brought up the young pig. River rising. Weather - light showers all day. Thu 16 - Getting in pigs for WILSON (John) all day. Went to Warrnambool in the evening to see WILSON about pigs. Weather stormy. Fri 17 - Returned home before breakfast. Sent 18 pigs to WILSON (John) in DOY'S WAGGON. River rising. DREW (Mr.) went to find stray pigs. EVERITT (Charles) & WRIGHT came to see if they could get two steers for two bullocks. They went round to see if any would suit them at Purnim. Bullock dray came from COOMETE. Weather fine. Sat 18 - DREW (Mr.) went out again to try and find pigs. ARNEL (Frederick) working in the garden. Went down to the sale of MacKELLAR'S (Mr.) cattle at KOROIT, but they did not make their appearance. Went to ERNEST'S (Bostock) and walked from there into town and back. Sun 19 - Went into town to church and stayed all night. Got my letters. Weather very fine. Mon 20 - Returned from town before breakfast. Started the dray for COOMETE. WM.KEILLAR finished the gates. Passed all the sheep through arsenic for their feet...and some of the lambs. Weather sharp frost and fine after. Tue 21 - PETER called about slabs for huts at COOMETE. Walked as far as forest with him to see slabs. Went to see WM.KEILLAR about putting up the huts. DREW (T.) carted stuff to gateways. Went to MARGETTS (Edw) in afternoon. Called at LATTA'S (William) about his pigs and to see if he would plough tobacco ground for me. Agreed with old ARNEL(Fred) to cart loads to Coomete. Weather.cold,dull,storms. Wed 22 - Sent sheep in with ERNEST (Bostock). Agreed with PETER for slabs. ARNEL (Fred) working in the garden. Weather showery. Thu 23 - Went into Warrnambool about loading dray with timber for Coomete. Went from there to election of NEW ROAD BOARD and stayed in town all night. PALMER (Octavius Frederick William) called at GRASMERE. Weather fine. Fri 24 - Went down to KOROIT to sale of MacKELLAR'S (Mr.) cattle and returned home in the afternoon. Went into ERNEST'S (Bostock) to a party. Weather changeable. Sat 25 - Had a PIGEON MATCH at ERNEST'S (Bostock). Stayed in town all night. Weather showery. Sun 26 - Went to church. Stayed in town all night. Weather fine. Mon 27 - Stayed in town all day. Went out to ERNEST'S in the morning. Weather - Raining nearly all day. Tue 28 - JIMMY (Bostock) TOM (Bostock) and myself went to ERNEST'S to get our horses, but changed our minds and stayed. W. very fine. Wed 29 - JIMMY (Bostock) and myself returned to GRASMERE in the morning. JIMMY left for Coomete in the afternoon. TOM (Bostock) went as far as SPRING CREEK on his way home. Arranged with WILLIAM KEILLAR when to go to Coomete. Walked to the township and called at MR.STUBBS. Weather very fine. Thu 30 - Brought down and killed a beast for WELCH (WELSH) (Mr..). Called to see the MARGETTS (Edw.) ARNEL (Fred) and T.DREW trenching the new piece of ground in the garden. (First indentification of MR.DREW having a given name " T "). Weather very fine. Fri 31 - WELSH (Mr.) brought potatoes and took away beef. Blistered Inkerman all round. Went to WELSH'S to see pigs for sale. DREW (T) brought log for sleeper in stable. WILLIAM KEILLAR started for Coomete to put up the huts. Weather fine but storm at night. So ends another month of Gussy's writings... in 1863 at Grasmere.
