Does anyone know if it is possible to view the original paper records of passengers on the immigrant ships? I have never found any record of the arrival of my great grandmother - who died in Geelong - but there is an intriguing entry on a microfiche record of the arrival in Melbourne of the "Merchantman" (26 April 1854) that contains potentially relevant information but this microfiche record fades out in one corner just where the lady passenger's name would have been written. Could this be why nobody has managed to transcribe the name onto an index? Alternatively, would there have been a list kept of passengers who embarked on ships in England that were bound for Australia? Allan G. Jamieson AOK Innovations Pty. Ltd.
