Greetings listers, Many thanks to every lister who has contributed something to the discussion on deaths in prison. It has turned into a very interesting topic, even if it does have its gruesome side. I have learned heaps, so thank you everyone. For those of you who have been wondering what happens next, I have checked the inquest index, and my chap's cause of death is listed as 'Inflammation Lungs'. Now I have no idea what that means (Asthma? Pleurisy? Pneumonia?) but it is possibly a 'natural cause', i.e. it is not likely that this person was hanged. My guess is that he was probably a prisoner who was taken ill and died while serving his sentence, and because the death occurred in prison, an inquest was necessary. This was in 1904. So yes, I will order his death certificate, in the hope that more details will be shown. Meantime, I have to wait until my Visa card recovers from Christmas (or 'stops steaming', thank you Tricia!) and then I will order it as soon as I can. Stay tuned, folks, I will let the list know the outcome as soon as my Visa card can stand the strain! Cheers to all Julie.
Hi Julie Sound like the Dr was a bit of a quack! Didn't know what cause the death so put down the first thing that came into his mind! :-) Guess he was hoping his short comings would never be discovered. Blasted Dr's!! When I was growing up they were demi-gods that knew it all - seems they are just as fallible as us mere mortals!
