    3. Dear Lex how exciting!! it could well be - at first I thought David only ran Three Wandos in 1855 - 1852, later known as Wando Dale, but although it seems he squatted there originally with his brother Thomas the surgeon (who ran his little "hospital" - I dread to think how primitive it must have been) there too - I have subsequently discovered his footprint all over the place. Seems he squatted on many spots but actually purchased Mt Gambier Station 1852 (later renamed Moorak) - 1859. Other places I have found him to have had license to squat or buy are Finnis Springs (1859) and Limestone Ridge (1859 - 1861). Then last night I discovered him listed also as squatting on Weandron the same time as he was at Three Wandos plus he put his brother on Emernering at the same time and put his brother-in-law Thomas Glen on Murbko station on the Murray in 1863. The problem is - I haven't come across Cashmere station anywhere - where did you dig that up? I'd be really interested to chase that down. My David apparently came from Carrick, Waterford, Ireland and was married in Gawler SA to an Anne Pile and a fair few of their kids were born there - but seems she went back to England and had four more kids there between 1861 and 1865 so he must've been there too at least occasionally if one is to believe things were right and proper - but she must've come back somewhere along the line bacause she died in SA The only Bridget Power I have come across was Bridget Higgins who married my David's father back in Ireland - but I have no details of her or of him except that he was also David. That Bridget died in Waterford Ireland so Presumably never set foot in Oz. The only Mary I can find aroudn then was married to Thomas Herbert Power (the doctor who came out with David and was listed on the passenger list) and I believe her maiden name was Mary Sophia Bluxton but I know nothing about her except that they had 6 kids: Robert, Herbert, Kathleen, Lilian, Marion and Jessie born in the 30s and 40s. Haven't picked up on any Elizas. Do you have any pics or docs of interest? It's such a problem - there were so many Powers coming to Oz around them - half of Ireland must've arrived here. cynth Cynthia Kuiper Ph 9449 6855 Mob: 041 449 6855 ----- Original Message ---- From: Lex Foley <lexf@webone.com.au> To: aus-vic-western-district@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, June 11, 2007 11:04:46 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT] David Power m Anne Pile Hello Cynthia, I am hoping that this is the David Power that also had the station "Cashmere" that was also part of that area. Sorry about this but I am doing this of the top of my head at the moment, I thought that they were brothers and that the Dr. ran a hospital out of a hut there. I had been chasing details a few years back of them and the one that I was looking for was married in South Australia and also had all or most of their children were born there. My gg-grndmother was Bridget Power who was married to a John Power and they had one son and several daughters. I dont know what happened to John or the son who was also called John, but the rest of the family came out to Australia, but not all at once. My g-grandmother Eliza and her sister Mary came out in 185? and from what I could find out it was stated that they were going to relations. Mary was married at Cashmere Station in 1853 and Eliza in 1854. Going on records David Power had sold Cashmere Station just prior to Mary and Eliza arriving and I have not found anything tying David in with the two girls but also haven't found anyone else that was related. The other thing is that they all converged and lived in the Coleraine area. My Powers came from Shanagovern, Limerick and I was in touch years ago with Kate Press who said that they may have worked for her grandfather in Ireland, but lost contact and didn't follow it up. I live in Canberra and from your phone number I take it that you are in Sydney, I am just hoping that we have a match as I would love to be able to tie them all together. Hoping to hear from you soon.
