Dear Listers I am continuing to search for famiily connections to the families below. At the present time, I am working in Samoa and have no access to broadband for searching, but am continuing to do some via a slow dial up connection. It is a while since I put this family on the list and so thought that I would do so again, in case there are any new members who might have some information or benefit from what I have provided. Archibald MACMILLAN and Flora McINTYRE (from Oskamull, Mull, Scotland) came with their children to Portland Victoria Australia on the New Zealander in 1853. From that time and in some records in Scotland, the family is referred to as McMILLAN. Their son John (23) who is my great grandfather married Margaret McDONALD in Digby, Vic in 1864 (she also came on the New Zealander with her parents, but they came from Skye). Some records have John McMILLAN born in Ulva, but the Parish of Ulva does in fact take in Oskamull which was a village in Mull. The other children who came with Archibald and Flora MACMILLAN on the New Zealander were: Anne, Christy and Alexander. I have not been able to trace what happened to Alexander. It seems that there was another son Angus who came to Australia, but did not travel with them at that time. I have not located the ship on which he came, or his records in Australia. There were two other daughters who remained in Mull – Mary and Sarah (Marion) who married Neil MacLean and lived in Ballygown in Mull. I have not yet traced Mary. I have searched for a McINTYRE family connection in Australia, and have found Dugald and Duncan McIntyre attending a burial of the son of John and Margaret McMillan (nee McDonald), but have no other information on Flora McIntyre's family in Mull (or perhaps from somewhere else in Argyll or perhaps even further away eg Inverness), or whether they came to Australia or not. Margaret McDONALD's parents were John McDONALD (brother of Hector McDONALD – Mac’s Hotel, Portland) and Flora LAMONT from Calnacnoc, Skye. They were married in Snizort, Inverness, Scotland in 1838. I have no other information on Flora LAMONT (1818 – 1878). Sometimes her name is LAMOND and sometimes LAMONT. My great grandparents – John McMILLAN and Margaret McDONALD (married in CofE, Digby in 1864) had a number of children. Their children were John Angus, Hector; Charles Alexander; Murdoch Alexander; David; Archibald John; Angus John; Margaret Ann; Flora Ann. I have not researched the McDONALD family as yet and am not sure if there were any other family members from the LAMONT family who came to Victoria other than Flora.. My grandfather John Angus McMILLAN (married Florence McGUINESS at Hotspur in 1909). The marriage record states that Florence was adopted by Elizabeth McGUINESS. Her birth certificate says that she was born in Bridport Street, South Melbourne in 1883. At the time of her marriage she was living in Hotspur, Victoria. I have not been able to trace Elizabeth McGuiness. Any information on Elizabeth McGUINESS who adopted my grandmother Florence McGUINESS (born - 1883; married 1909; died 1971) and the circumstances of that adoption would be appreciated. Florence’s birth certificate states that she was the child of Annie Jane McEACHERN who subsequently moved from Branxholme, Victoria Australia to NZ with her widowed mother, and other siblings when her father Angus McEACHERN passed away. I have one report that says that, before they left for NZ, they moved to Geelong for a short period of time. Annie had a second child before the family moved to NZ named Elsie Dolores (1890-92) who died in the Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. The McEACHERN family in NZ remained in contact with Florence and her husband John McMILLAN visited them. I have traced the McEACHERN family to Gore in Soutlhland New Zealand. Annie married Michael REGAN there (1894) and had three children. Sadly only one of these children lived to adulthood – Angus George REGAN who married Mary Jane MILLER in NZ in 1932. Angus McEACHERN (Annie's father) sailed with his father (Hugh), wife Ann (nee McDONALD) and their family from Tobermory on 28th October 1838 on board the vessel ‘British King’ bound for Australia arriving at Sydney on 1st March 1839. They were from Movern. On arrival some members of the family (Angus included ?) were engaged to work on Macarthur’s Station at Yass. The family remained there until 1846 when they overlanded to Victoria settling in the Casterton district. Hugh married twice – Mary Margaret STEWART (Children – Angus, William, Duncan, John ‘Long John;, Margaret, Johanna, Malcolm Stewart, Archibald, Catherine Livingstone and Sarah) and then Mary Ann CAMPBELL (Children - Jane and John). I have a reasonable amount of information about the later generations, and would willingly share records with others. I am interested in tracing the history of the streams of this family in Scotland, and widening my coverage of those in Australia and elsewhere. Thank you for any assistance that you can give me.
