I am researching my ggg grandfather Thomas GRAY who married Jessie Lamont in Wannon in 1856, and lived mainly in the Naracoorte SA to Apsley Vic area. I am trying to find exactly when he came to Australia, and have narrowed the period down to between March 1851 and May 1856. Although Thomas was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in 1834, he was living in Edinburgh at the time of the 1851 census, where his occupation was listed as a gardener. At this stage the evidence leads me to believe that Thomas came out to Aus on his own, and that he immigrated into Victoria.
