I read with interest all the postings and rarely see anything about the family names of interest to me. Can someone please tell me how this mailing list works and how one might go about extending my own research on 'The family tree' Karen Buckley Mobile: 0411205142 ----- Original Message ---- From: "aus-vic-western-district-request@rootsweb.com" <aus-vic-western-district-request@rootsweb.com> To: aus-vic-western-district@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 2, 2008 12:48:29 PM Subject: AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT Digest, Vol 3, Issue 2 Today's Topics: 1. If you check the archives of this list around 2003-2004 under Bostock you'll pick up lots of information. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT.html Beth Codling bcodling2@bigpond.com ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Wed, 2 Jan 2008 09:02:33 +1100 From: "margaret brookes" <mbrookes@vtown.com.au> Subject: [AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT] Tornado To: <aus-vic-western-district@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <003801c84cc2$1b995860$9364d6cb@brookes> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello, Not sure of the date the passenger list for the "Tornado" is being asked for. However it may be of interest that there is a diary written by the ship's parson/doctor on the 1858 voyage, Although not many individuals are named it is fascinating to read. I found reference to it at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne. kind regards, Margaret Brookes. ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Wed, 2 Jan 2008 09:38:51 +1100 From: "Rob and Leigh Prideaux" <rprideaux@optusnet.com.au> Subject: [AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT] Family Names Being Researched To: <aus-vic-western-district@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <007d01c84cc7$15ed8670$06daefdc@your8abc512da0> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Good Morning, It's some time since I've been on here so thought I would name my families of interest again and see if anyone is reseaching them. At this time when many of us have some free time, let's see if we can get some help from others on the List. We'll have 3 types of contributions. 1) Let us know your names of interest. Give us places and any info that may help others to help you. SUBJECT HEADING, e.g., ROLL CALL - BREWSTER, CAREY, WILSON, BENSON in Portland 2) Share your brick wall. Some one on the List just may have the key to breaking it down. SUBJECT HEADING, e.g., BRICK WALL - What became of Isabella WILSON after her marriage? 3) Pass on any gem of WD info that you have come across in the past year. It may be a website, a book, or something you ratted out in a FH Library. Just relate it to the Western District. SUBJECT HEADING, e.g. WD INFO - Maritime Museum at Port Macdonnell If you get a good response then make a decision as to when you should change your discussion from public to private. If it's obvious that only you and one other are interested then move it off the List. Sometimes however we get right into a topic and enjoy a bit of lively discussion. If in any doubt just ask. Grace Catherine Bryant married James Alexander McLeay. Both had mothers who were daughters of Donald Munro and Georgina Ann Scobie McKay Grace ran the PO at Ross Bridge for at least 50 years from about 1910. How did a woman manage to get the job in those times? Who ran it before her? Have you posted your family names Karen? Basically you get out of a mailing list what you put into it. See the message I've just sent about listing your names and your brickwalls and start typing. PS It also helps other listers if you delete the old messages, just leaving enough for people to know what you are responding to.
