    3. The difficulty in determining boundaries for the western district is a very old dilemma.. in the 1820's..anything south of Sydney was known as southern New Holland, c1830,'s anything west of Cape Otway , to the border ,was known as Portland Bay.. in the 40's..anything west of the township of Geelong was the western district, as far as South Australia. clerical and government administration had a terrible headache with boundary lines and names, and south australia was included for some time in the the Portland region, then the Henty's decided that they would creat a colony of their own~! it was to include part of south australia, and they wanted to rope in Warrnambool and Belfast [Port Fairy]. the latter two towns were jealous sisters of Portland and wouldn;t be in it. the country was to be called Kings co or something simperingly similar. so Beryl, you have my sympathies, it is not an easy call <s> all the best Jenny Jenny Fawcett
