When I joined this list I was not sure if it was the right one for the MCSWAIN families who arrived at Portland on the Edward Johnstone, 3 Sept 1854, so I was given confidence by Beryl's mention of Portland. Now, to get on to the families - do you know there is a web site at http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/bryanfkeddy/hies-edward.html which gives an annotated passenger list of the Edward Johnstone? I would be very keen to correspond with anyone who has connections with the McSWAINs. The line my husband belongs to comes from Ewen MCSWAIN, who changed his name to Hugh SWAN when he moved to New South Wales in the 1860s. In 1869 he married Elizabeth BARNES at Mulgutherie, on the Lachlan River between Forbes and Condobolin. Their descendents have lived in the same area ever since.
