    3. Opps, never confuse the send, delete and reply buttons. Sorry everyone for the empty message. Susie, This is a great idea. I've been told that the Deniliquin group did the MIs although they must have done them since the mouse plague, I suppose. You would think that anyone recording MIs would also get the register info if they could. Does your book mention a date of publication for the book at SAG? I've also emailed the NSW mailing list covering this area. I've discovered a Rootsweb mailing list covering Aus Cemeteries but it doesn't seem to have any subscribers. Penny >>> "Susie Zada" <szada@zades.com.au> 26/09/00 17:40:07 >>> Another thought - with the SAG MIs, there's normally a record of who collected the MIs - if the people involved did it anything like I've done our local ones, they will have drawn a plan to work from to ensure they got each one. It would be worth trying to track down who did that work in case they've still got their original notes. I know I've got better plans of all our local cemeteries as I created then updated them for my work / project. In fact the Cemetery Trust that administers our group of cemeteries have now copied mine for their own use! I started off with copying the Trusts plans, then updating them as I did the work, so they included all the burials that had no headstones which is really what you're after. Best of luck ....... Anyone without a headstone doesn't get a mention in the SAG book. The records which were lost were the registers which listed all burials and which plot they were in. I wish I spelt this out in my original email because heaps of people seem to think monument inscriptions cover everybody. Unfortunately lots of people didn't have headstones, including my great-grandparents. Thanks, Penny >>> "Susie Zada" <szada@zades.com.au> 26/09/00 17:22:23 >>> G'day Penny, Before you get too far trying to reconstruct the information, have you been in touch with the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney? According to the book "Cemeteries In Australia", SAG have the Monumental Inscriptions for the Tooleybuc Cemetery. Regards ...... I just learnt that in the last eight or ten years these records were totally destroyed during a plague of mice. It is sad that so many years after photocopiers were invented no-one (not even the nearest historical society or family history society) seems to have made a copy. > > In the meantime, I now have a map of the Tooleybuc Cemetery. If you have a relative buried in an unmarked grave at Tooleybuc, and you know the location, I'd be grateful if you would email me directly. Perhaps a partial reconstruction of the records is possible. I'll donate any info I get to the Swan Hill Family History Society and other appropriate groups. > > Penny > > > ==== AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > Western Victoria Association of Historical Societies > http://home.vicnet.net.au/~wvahs/welcome.htm > > ============================== > Visit ROOTS-L, the Internet's oldest and largest genealogical > mailing list: > http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/ > >
