    3. Hi All Just looking at the Vichistory site at . http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nuttall/ and noticed the link to Victorian Brass Bands. Back in the 40s and 50s there was a group of towns in the Western District, virtually the same towns that were in the Hampden Football League - Colac, Terang, Camperdown, Mortlake, Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Cobden - who took it in turns to host Band Recitals on a regular basis. Lunch was put on in the local hall by the mothers and wives, bands played on the town square or at the football ground in the afternoon and then there would be a concert in the hall at night and presentations of trophies. My two older brothers were in the Mortlake Brass Band, though still in short pants, and I recall those days with great delight. I noticed, however, that none of these places were on the Brass Bands list. I can rectify the Mortlake situation, by looking up the old newspapers at the State Library. I recall the organisers actually bringing a conductor from Melbourne and finding him a job in the town so that the band could go ahead. Does anyone else have enough information to add any of these other towns? Food for thought. Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia What's your story?
