Hi everyone, I have just had a phone call from the State Library in Victoria to confirm that yes, they can provide individual photographs from Thomas Chuck's montage. The order form is on the link below. There are step-by-step instructions for placing an order on the site. Cost is $35 per photograph. http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/about/using/copying/obtaining/ordering/ordering.html Cheers, Trish.
Dear Listers, Received the following from the NZSG CD Name SKIPWORTH Joel Aliases JOHNSON Date before 19 Nov 1862 Description Criminal suspect, desertion Occupation Quarryman Place Kyneton, Victoria. Age : Sex 30 : M Title Otago Police Gazette Page 114 Publication 24 Nov 1862 Comment Englishman : supposed to be in Province of Canterbury Warrant received from Victoria for apprehension for deserting wife and family at Kyneton. I would like to track down this Warrant, as I am reasonably sure that it would be been taken out by my GGGrandmother. Joel being my GGGrandfather. Any suggestions as to how I can go about this would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your help. Steph in Adelaide.
Hello, I tried for information regarding my g.grandparents (above) a few years ago with no luck. I now have a few more clues which may ring a bell with someone. Margaret arrived at Geelong 15.1.1853 on the Stebonheath with no family. (From County Fermanagh) She is said to be 22. She is described as having been engaged for work by Michael LYONS for what looks like 6 months? and the address is just given as LAKE COLAC. George WILLIAMS is also on an unassisted list for the "Sussex". arriving September 1853. Margaret and George subsequently say on their children's birth certificates they were married at COLAC in 27th April 1854. However a lady from the Colac History Society found no trace of them. I have the birth certificates for most of their children including one for Fanny WILLIAMS born at Creswick in 1855. However on some certificates there is an earlier child - deceased, named George. I realise I need to go to the records office and find the actual ship list for the SUSSEX which might suggest where George was going to work but at the moment I thought I would try to find out about Margaret and where she was hired to work. Any help greatfully received.
I see the The Terang & District Family History Group has just finished indexing the Camperdown Cemetery Could you please tell me if there is a record for: Johanna Osbourne Died Timboon 1896 Aged 22years Father John Osbourne Mother Sarah Egan Thank you Phil.

Hello Laraine, Sorry, but none of these names appear on our family tree and I am the one who has researched the family. You don't mention where your Vivian's came from and where they were here. That could help, as there are about 5 distinct Vivian families in Australia without any connections. Try Carolyn Harris talltrees@westnet.com.au she may be able to help you, as she has a Vivian family on her family research list. Our Vivian family came from St.Martins in Meneage, Cornwall to Australia via Portland in 1856 if that is any help. Hi Trish, I have to admit I knew about Chuck's Pioneers but only because my cousin once told me that it was a crying shame that our gt gt gt grandfather James Connell, a publican in Queen St. in 1836, was not among the portraits, as he had died in 1857 and had no-one to promote his cause. Do you know if all the photos were taken by Chuck, or were portraits by others included? I had no idea it was such an impressive piece of work. I would be very pleased if you could look up the HILL name, as a David Hill inherited his property and shares James Connell's grave! Many thanks, Helen
I would like to thank Sue's friend Marion for giving me the details on the headstone of my Bertrand relatives. regards, Lorene
