Dear Everyone, I am seeking information, and in particular descendants of Patrick Francis Neville Quinlivan and Emma Staniford who lived at Lubeck (between Stawell and Horsham). Patrick and Emma were married in Robe, South Australia, on 28 October 1863, and there children Summerland, Eliza, Edward, Gertrude, Patrick, John and Kate were born in various SA towns between here and Penola, while Minnie, Mary, Laurence and William were born in Lubeck or nearby. Emma died in 1889 and Patrick remarried Mary Anne Elizabeth Egan and Athur, Albert, Mabel, Francis, George and Richard were born in Lubeck. After the death of Patrick in 1898 Mary returned to South Australia with her children but it appears the older children remained in Victoria. Summerland by this stage had already married Elizabeth Latta and two children had been born. Gertrude at a later date married John Beddoe and bore him eleven children. Can anybody out there help? Many thanks, Michael Fitzgerald.

Could I suggest a boundary closer to Geelong to take in places such as Lorne, Bambra, Birregurra and Deans Marsh which would seem to fit better with the Western District than with the region closer to Geelong? Dear Friends, Sounds like a great idea and I could do it if I had the time, but I don't. I have a long thread of names from the Western District too. I will check all the names that come on the list, with old diaries of Augustus Bostock from 1853-1920. Those old pioneers walked or rode the horse from one station to another and slept overnight. They all knew everybody it seems from old writings. Sincerely in Searching Thelma (Bostock) Birrell in Queensland. Hi David, > Hmmm. Now I wonder if you're talking about Lindsay Colkin GRINTER b. 7 Jan > 1952 who married June Anita BAULCH b. 30 Nov 1954? > Lindsay's maternal Grandmother was Mildred Maud COLLYER (of Portland) and > she is a 1st cousin of my Grandfather. Golly! Yes, I am, actually :-) I've been in touch with Gerard GRINTER, who has a BEDDLECOMBE ancestor from Muchelney. (Miriam, who was a sister of my 3-G grandmother, Ann). He has a GRINTER database, and is willing to check it out, if I can give him Lindsay's grandparents - or, preferably, great-grandparents. BTW, great place, Portland :-) Cheers, Lesley
I realise this may be creeping alittle further than your Colac boundaries but I thought I would let listers know of this project which is underway....Mr Ian Barlow, 17 Sladen St Birregurra is compiling a database of all families to live in the Birregurra district. This project is set to take several years work but Ian will be pleased of details of families concerned, and in due course may be able to help with further infor for you. He has been busy indexing schools, church records etc so is building up a huge amount of info. I am happy to pass on email info to him as he doesn't have the internet connected as yet, or you may like to write to him. Regards, Pam Jennings

Hi All Just looking at the Vichistory site at . http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nuttall/ and noticed the link to Victorian Brass Bands. Back in the 40s and 50s there was a group of towns in the Western District, virtually the same towns that were in the Hampden Football League - Colac, Terang, Camperdown, Mortlake, Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Cobden - who took it in turns to host Band Recitals on a regular basis. Lunch was put on in the local hall by the mothers and wives, bands played on the town square or at the football ground in the afternoon and then there would be a concert in the hall at night and presentations of trophies. My two older brothers were in the Mortlake Brass Band, though still in short pants, and I recall those days with great delight. I noticed, however, that none of these places were on the Brass Bands list. I can rectify the Mortlake situation, by looking up the old newspapers at the State Library. I recall the organisers actually bringing a conductor from Melbourne and finding him a job in the town so that the band could go ahead. Does anyone else have enough information to add any of these other towns? Food for thought. Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia What's your story? Dear Robert, I have, just today, bought a large hardcover book called "The House That Wool Built" and enjoyed a stroll down memory lane. It has great sketches on each right hand page and a full page story on the left page. It speaks about those pioneering names you have mentioned, which are also in diaries of my families from that time. A story on the Chirnsides and a another on Carranballac, that you named are included. If I can pass something on I am happy to. The book expounds on 32 properties across Victoria. However, I am wondering if you are related to the McKenzie family who were on Woolongoon. Anthony McKenzie occupied this property in mid 1800's. Other links were to the Weatherley family & Jemima Robertson... Great stories if you are the same family For now ...Sincerely in Searching..Thelma (Bostock) Birrell BOSTOCK Links http://www.ozemail.com.au/~mrbirrell/ BIRRELL Story www.electricscotland.com/webclans/atoc/birrell2.html CROSS Stitch http://mrbirrell.freeyellow.com/ >G'day List >My McKENZIEs were at Mount William Station after 1853 and at Carranballac >(near Skipton) after 1854 till 1875. Dear Research Friends, In 1891 my grandfather Robert (1850-1922) was a Rabbit Inspector at Horsham. I found this on a certificate. Does anyone have a clue of how to find a record of his being in Horsham in 1891. Much appreciated..Thelma (Bostock) Birrell in Queensland.
