Hi Everyone I'm looking for information on James Evans and Mary Ann Boden. James and Mary Ann had three children - Rachel born c1845 Runnymede (may have married Robert Smith), Elizabeth born c1848 Runnymede (married Thomas Kipping) and Thomas Evans born c1851. James and Mary Ann married (finally) in 1870 at Condale. Mary Ann died 1873 at Merino and I believe buried Merino. Would appreciate any help. Rae Clarke, Melbourne
Hello List, Would anyone be researching Thomas and Mary Ann Kent or the Boneham's from Vic and SA ? Any information greatfully received. Regards Vickey Cubis
Good afternoon all, I am sending this message to all the Australian and New Zealand mailing lists that I subscribe to, and hope that you will forgive me for doing so, but there is no other way that I can get this message to everyone. Webring, the people who hosted the backbone of so many webrings for the past 6 or 7 years, has been taken over by YAHOO! As a result, it is now absolutely impossible for the ringmasters of the rings hosted by Webring to access their rings to undertake maintenance, add people to the ring, delete inactive sites and so on. Personally, I find this inconvenient - we were given no warning, just an email telling us that the take over had happened. Yahoo! now require all ringmasters to have a Yahoo! ID and that you need to associate your webring with that ID - that much works - but after that, forget it - there is nowhere, anymore, to maintain the ring! And on top of that each of you, the members of ANY WEBRING ANYWHERE, not just this one, will have to have YAHOO! ID's and will need to associate YOUR OWN pages with EACH of the rings you are a member of - What a PAIN IN THE PROVERBIAL that is!! Yahoo! advertise great new webring managment tools etc. - but despite several hours of trying to find the things (excuse the language here, but I am fairly peeved about this) I am buggered if I can find them! After spending time that could have been productively spent elsewhere, but instead was wasted, I have decided that it is just not worth the trouble to continue to maintain - or at least try to maintain the Gum Tree Web Ring any longer. I will leave it live on line where it is for 1 month from today, after that I am pulling it down in disgust - and yes, in protest at the arrogant attitude of the YAHOO! managament who give no assistance what so ever in finding their so-called "great tools" - despite 9 separate emails to their help people begging for assistance. I would like to thank all of those people who have patronised Gum Tree during its 2½ year life time, and especially those who have helped out. My apologies if this causes inconvenience to anyone, but it is out of my control, and is just another example of big business not giving a hoot who they walk on to make a dollar. I am sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but it is beyond my control. I could leave it there, and probably will, but there will be no maintenance done on the ring, so new members won't get added, because it is impossible for me to do so. I am trying to make contact with any Bauer family member or descendant thereof. I believe this family moved to the Colac district in late 1800's early 1900's. any help appreciated. Faye

After reading James Flett's books on Victorian gold fields, I would now like to read any other books etc that deal specifically with the history of the Smythesdale and Nintingbool area up to about 1870. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest suitable titles and authors? Researching William & John COLHOUN (COLQUHOUN), Jane OATES, Walter, Jane & William WRIGHT Thanks. Ron, Christchurch, NZ
Hi, My new site is getting there, Tracing your family footsteps through time in Australia. I have a few people hosting towns, but apart from that I am doing it on my own. It will take a bit to get worked up but will be very benifical to all very soon. But the only way it is going to work is if everyone sends in there ancestors to add to the site. That way others can contact if they are related. I do have alot to add as yet, but these things take time. I don't have lots of people helping out like other sites, I am doing this on my own. So if you could add my site it would be much appreciated. Can you advise if this is the correct list to be on for the Charlton area. Jenny Qld
Hi All, Please make sure that you are using the correct email address to post to the list. The correct address is AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com Some people are using the address that they subscribed with and I am not sure if this actually makes it to the list (I don't think it does - but other list owners may correct me here!). I have forwarded some on to the list that were incorrectly addressed and have notified the people concerned. Hope this helps Debbie Down List Admin

Came to Aus with parents Mary and Andrew in 1841. Andrew was killed ina gun mishap at Pigeon Ponds and Mary married Thomas Chapman in Portland in 1842. Euphamia married James Power in Warrnambool in 1860. I believe they had 2 sons. Nothing can be found about her from then on. She belonged to a large step-family of 13 children so seems strange that we have lost trace of her ,all the rest of the family can be traced The Chapman family lived in Port Fairy are there any lost rellies out there. Hi All, What web sites have you used that you have found useful for your Western District Research? You may have noticed some of the taglines at the bottom of the messages have now been coming up with different web sites for this area, but I would like to put up some more! So let me know what you have accessed. I would think that it would be useful to the other researchers on this list as well. The ones that have been included so far are : Ballarat Genealogical Society, Penshurst Historical Society, Port Fairy Historical Society, Western Victoria Assoc. of Historical Societies.
