    1. [AUS-VIC-West] SURNAME INDEX NOW ONSITE
    2. Julie Clift
    3. Hi, Regarding my recent survey on my site about what you would like to see added, their was a big response in favour of a Surname Index. I am pleased to say I sat up most of last night and into the morning *yawn* hehe putting this together. So their is now a Surname Index online and to date their is almost 400 surnames! Not bad for just over a few weeks :-) I also want to share some more good news! I recieved a email from the editor of the Computers and Genealogy in the Australian publication Australian Family Tree Connections. (Thank you Mark) And is going to add my site in the November Issue ! I am so pleased and proud :-) and this will certainly give this site reconignition, and who knows what relatives may read that magazine and view the site. Anyway, if you want to check out the Surname Index: Tracking Our Family Footsteps through time in Australia: BDM's site. http://www.angelfire.com/ns/aust Kindest Regards Julie Clift Kalgoorlie/Boulder, Western Australia My Websites: England to Australia - http://www.angelfire.com/ne/roots * Home of the RENTON Surname World Wide - http://renton1.homestead.com * Tracking Our Family Footsteps through time in Australia: BDM's site. http://www.angelfire.com/ns/aust

    1. [AUS-VIC-West] Re: Tooleybuc records lost to a mouse plague
    2. Penny Mercer
    3. In July I posted a question on the soc.genealogy.aus+nz newsgroup about the Tooleybuc Cemetery records. I've been trying to locate them for some time so that I could arrange a headstone for my ancestors buried there. I just learnt that in the last eight or ten years these records were totally destroyed during a plague of mice. I can't tell you how disappointed I am that these records were available ten years ago when my mother visited the area, and are now gone forever. To all those people out there in country districts, please ensure that there is more than one copy of your precious records - preferably placed in a local library or society for safe-keeping. It is sad that so many years after photocopiers were invented no-one (not even the nearest historical society or family history society) seems to have made a copy. In the meantime, I now have a map of the Tooleybuc Cemetery. If you have a relative buried in an unmarked grave at Tooleybuc, and you know the location, I'd be grateful if you would email me directly. Perhaps a partial reconstruction of the records is possible. I'll donate any info I get to the Swan Hill Family History Society and other appropriate groups. Penny

    1. [AUS-VIC-West] McLEAN family - Tasmania to Miners Rest WHY?
    2. Doug McLean
    3. Hi My Alexander McLEAN b 1836 in Monzie, Scotland family moved from Tasmania to Miners Rest between 1865 and 1868. I am trying to find out How - When - Where and Why ?? Alexander was married for the second time to Isabella Immerrie Morris 1842 in Tasmania where they had four children Helen 1862, William 1864, Elizabeth 1865 sometime after this date they moved to Miners Rest where eight more children were born. The first four died early i.e Alexander 1868 - 1872, Agnes 1870 - 1871, Isabella 1872 - 1875 the next four survived i.e James Morris (my grand father) 1874 Alexander 1877, Roberta 1879, Albert 1881 and Arthur Francis 1883. Sometime after 1883 the family moved to Echuca. (Why and When) It is known that Isabella McLean worked as a midwife in Echuca. I would dearly love to know what induced the family to move in the first instance to Miners Rest in that time frame and what employment Alexander had it would also be of interest to know why the first four children born at Miners Rest died so early. Thank you and have a nice day. 2. Julie Clift
    3. Hi All, The new site Tracking Our Family Footsteps through time in Australia: BDM's site. http://www.angelfire.com/ns/aust is up and running. Although it has only been up for a few weeks, their is a reasonable amount of data and more is being added daily. As I am the only editor for the site I am doing my utmost best to get it on as quickly as I can. A HUGE thank you to all of those who are hosting a place/town/city, they are doing a wonderful job and I appreciate it very much. The aim of the site is to cover places where our ancestor's were in Australia and in what time frame. If their is no place onsite yet for where your ancestor's were, you can email me and I will gladly add it along with your data. As data is being added daily, those of you that have it bookmarked may have to reload the page. I am not doing this site for any other reason but to make it another easier way for us to find our ancestors and hopefully find some cousins. Your support is truly appreciated. 3. Hi Listers Webrings are recognised as being a good method for attracting visitors to your website I have spent the last few weeks seeking an alternative for "webrings", which now - in most cases require YAHOO ID numbers - this requirement is frustrating some people and they are seeking alternatives. I am launching a new alternative "SITE RING" (similar to a webring without the need for a YAHOO ID number) and I invite anyone with a genealogical website to consider supporting this ring. The ring is called The "GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH RING" and information can be found at http://www.geocities.com/heartland/canyon/6387/content.html the ring, found at the bottom of the page is "free" and offers statistics relating to hits from within the ring. (see example by opening the above URL and hit the "LIST" button) The method for joining the ring is simple - you hit the "join" button and follow simply instructions. Hint: If you decide to join please ensure that you list alternative spellings for surnames in the keyword section. Thank you and have a nice day.
