    1. Fw: [AUS-VIC-West] O'NEILL FREDERICK died WW1 Camperdown
    2. Beth Codling
    3. Thanks for this Beryl. She would have been a widow at the age of 23 by the look of it. I would think it possible that she remarried although I know there was a shortage of men because of the war and that many remained single. I think that we (my dad) would have known about her if she had remained in Camperdown,. I'll have to do some thinking on the SO UT and perhaps check a Baillieres Directory for the family when I next visit the State Library. Cheers Beth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beryl O'Gorman" <[email protected]> To: "Beth Codling" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2004 9:36 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC-West] O'NEILL FREDERICK died WW1 Camperdown Hi Beth I couldn't find her death either in the Great War or Death indexes under various wild card searches, but this is probably her birth ATCHISON Margaret Jane to Samuel A and Agnes THWAITES 1893 (35203) Birthplace is SO UT which is probably South something. Also found the following siblings Died Warrnambool 1920 aged 37, George Simon, son of the above couple (12648) Died Geelong 1964 aged 61, Claude Hamilton (3037) Died Preston 1972 aged 80, Elizabeth Rachel HOCKING (9798 Died Warrnambool 1973 aged 87, John Samuel (5242) The family seemed to be spread over quite a few years. There's a small possibility she could have been still alive in 1985 I suppose, at 92. That's when the index stops. 3. Hello everyone In 2002, I joined this List. It turned out to be the incorrect one in relation to my research interests but I've stayed on nonetheless because I've enjoyed Thelma's and other members' postings. So, even though I'm on the wrong (geographical) list, I'll still post my interests because you never know your luck in a strange country: Vinecombe Matthews Both families lived in Victorian goldfields towns - Talbot and St Arnaud - and their descendents managed to spread themselves to all points north, south, east and west of Victoria. 3. Wonderful Vicki. This certainly looks like the one. There were Atchisons in both Cobden and Camperdown when I was growing up in Camperdown who could possibly be related. 3. I have a request to anyone who can check out a marriage for me. My great uncle Frederick O'Neill born 1888, was killed in action in WW1 in 1916 the year he signed up. He was married to Margaret. My 91 year old father remembers Fred and his wife visiting his parents home. I have checked Fred's war records but would like to know more of what happened to his wife and her maiden name. Does anyone have marriage records for this time? Follow up for subsequent marriage of this person Margaret? Was she a Camperdown girl? My dad thinks Fred married shortly before going overseas but has no knowledge of Margaret after Fred's departure and subsequent early death just weeks after seeing action. Thanks Beth

    1. [AUS-VIC-West] HARVEY Port Fairy
    2. Beth Codling
    3. My great great grandparents Richard and Priscilla HARVEY, arrived at Belfast from Cornwall on the Clara in 1854 and stayed in the area for the rest of their lives. Richard was from Sancreed and Priscilla from Camborne. Shipping records indicate that Richard age 23 and wife Priscilla Harvey age 22 were assisted migrants. Church of England was stated as the religion for both. Richard's occupation was stated as agricultural labourer. There was a 21 year old John Harvey and wife on the Clara too however subsequent research indicates that John and Richard were not brothers. I would be interested to know if as an assisted migrant Richard would have had a job waiting. Richard's death certificate states occupation as Quarryman. The death certificate of his son William states that father was a stone mason. Birth certificates of daughters Mary Jane and Priscilla state father's occupation as labourer. Is there some way in which I can track his workplaces? Would there be Quarry records? Were there many stonemasons in Port Fairy who could have employed him? One of their children, Grace, was librarian at the Institute library in Port Fairy for many years at end of century and early twentieth century. I'd be interested to hear of anything. Cheers Beth in Melbourne

    3. Hi all, I was surprised to find the death of Agnes TAYLOR, nee O'BRIEN, in 1962 in Port Fairy as she was last sighted in Cue WA in 1914 when her husband died! It got me thinking about why she was buried in the Yambuk Cemetery, until I checked her death notice which told me she was the sister of "Michael, Minnie, Bridget (Mrs Davidson), John, William, Annie, Francis, Thomas, Kathleen, all deceased, and Margaret (Yambuk)." Obviously she returned "home" after her husband died at such a young age. Is anyone researching O'BRIEN in this area? Best wishes Jan

    2. Beryl O'Gorman
    3. OK Folks I can't stir the 200 of you up to tell about your research interests or your favourite books or any other Western District history snippets, so how about "What cheeses me off!" Keep it related to genealogy and mailing lists. (And this one is banned: Listowners who continually nag their Listers to put up messages.) What cheeses me off is when I've been asking questions on Lists for years and occasionally get a reply, and then someone else asks a question and gets 25 replies in the one day! I'm also willing to do lookups of individual names in the Vic CDs over the next couple of weeks. Those who can offer the same or similar service might also like to volunteer and we can share the load. Don't ask for bulk downloads of a surname please as that breaches Copyright. No more than 3 names at a time and email me or other volunteers privately. Cheers Beryl Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia List Admin
