I am searching for marriage information for Alexander BURROWS b. about 1836 county Sligo, Ireland and emigrated to Australia mid 1800's where he married Mary Jane CUMMINGS or COMMONS (previous marriage to CULNER? or CARLTON?) about 1868. Marriage details in several documents varies between Port Fairy and Ballarat. I have been unable to locate registration of the marriage in any searches or shipping details for either Alexander or Jane. Alexanders parents were Thomas and Jane Burrows. Alexanders children were Andrew 1869, William 1871 and Emma 1874 all born in Ballarat. Are there any genealogy detectives out there who can help?
Has anyone any information re: the above families in Creswick mid 1800's onwards. Samina
Hi list further to my listing from a couple of weeks back in which I shed doubts on the wisdom of the SLV in presenting us with what must have been a very expensive ,but badly needed, refurbishment of the genealogy centre and then failing to provide adequate mfilm readers I'm here to tell you that they have two new readers one of which is a lovely motorised job with all the bells and whistles and I'm the first to admit that I was errant in my criticism of an organisation that obviously had their finger right on the pulse of the genealogical communities needs. So well done again SLV and I guess I'll be having crow for dinner regards to all Chris Beasley Tremont

HI your connection with the Unicorn Hotel sparked my interest. My William Pobjoy was also an owner of the Unicorn Hotel, I don't know who he brought it from, but he took over the licence on the 19th Dec 1884. Three months before his wife died in Jan 1887 he transferred the licence to his son Harry. Harry was as far as I know publican till 1895 when he took over the Albion Hotel - which he renamed the Golden City - yep that one in Sturt Street. He was publican there till he died in 1917. Were you aware that they are restoring the facade and building apartments behind it? I'm waiting to see it. The facade has been classified by the national trust, but you are probably aware of that. Hi all for those of you that know of my Creswick interest, you are probably wondering where I have been, well I been right here trying to get my email to send. Hopefully all working now. For those of you that have not tripped across my Creswick work, here is a web site that you might find interesting http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pobjoyoneill/CRESWICK.htm also this page - although family orientated - does have quite a few extractions from the newspaper and others get a mention, because my boy was captain of the cricket team amongst other interests. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pobjoyoneill/wptime.htm Sue O'Neill Researching POBJOY world-wide

As Elizabeth kindly pointed out it should be Willaura that I'm enquiring about. Sorry for any confusion and thanks Elizabeth.
Hi Everyone, I've just rejoined the list after quite a long absence. Can anyone on the list tell me where someone who died in Wellaura in 1920 might be buried? Does anyone on the list know if they have their own cemetery? Wellaura is situated 49 km's NE of Ararat. Does anyone have any connections to William Rowles son of William Gosling Rowles and Annie Floyd. William looks to have died of suicide by a gun shot wound in Wellaura in 1920. Any help at all much appreciated. Leanne Melbourne
