    1. [AUS-VIC-West] Sighting original immigration ship records
    2. allan
    3. Does anyone know if it is possible to view the original paper records of passengers on the immigrant ships? I have never found any record of the arrival of my great grandmother - who died in Geelong - but there is an intriguing entry on a microfiche record of the arrival in Melbourne of the "Merchantman" (26 April 1854) that contains potentially relevant information but this microfiche record fades out in one corner just where the lady passenger's name would have been written. Could this be why nobody has managed to transcribe the name onto an index? Alternatively, would there have been a list kept of passengers who embarked on ships in England that were bound for Australia? Allan G. Jamieson AOK Innovations Pty. Ltd.

    3. June 20, 1919 Mrs A.E. CUNNINGHAM, of Dahleu, near Horsham, died in bed at 1 a.m., yesterday week. Half an hour previously she asked her husband to call Muriel, one of the children, as she was choking. He did so and when he looked at his wife she was unconscious and becoming black in the face. He then went to Horsham for Dr BLACK, but on Dr BLACK's arrival she was dead. On Monday night the deceased had a slight attack of choking. She had not complained of any illness, but appeared to be mentally weak since her last illness. At the enquiry a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, that death was probably due to natural causes, such as heart failure, following upon nephritis, was returned. 3. Hello Richard Contact History Dept Education Dept Victoria and through Freedom of Information Victoria and a small fee will give you detailed information (photocopies of original records) about teachers who taught in Victoria. I think it cost $15 for details of my great grandfather who taught in late 1800s. I got it all warts and all. He was obviously perceived differently by his employer and the inspectors than by his family. :) Cheers Beth

    3. There's also one in the Sunday Herald Sun. It's a little easier to find and people can list things and people that they are looking for. It also includes reunions, etc. The column is called "Desperately Seeking"......"Your Community Noticeboard" Write to: Desperately Seeking Sunday Herald Sun, PO Box 14634, Melbourne City Mail Centre, 8001 Fax: (03)2929-2080 Email: [email protected] You also have to supply your phone number or address for publication. Friday Herald-Sun David - a small column at the back before the BDMs. I've considered putting a message there but wonder at its value when you have to physically 'search' for it, which I'm sure not many people would do.
