Hi everyone In response to Beryl's wakey wakey call the family I'm interested in is Kenneth George and Vera Alice MCLEOD (nee) NAYDA and their children Annie Avesia, Irene Gladys & Muriel Joyce from the Mulcra - Murrayville area around 1915. Kenneth's parents were Alexander Campbell and Catherine (Kate) Maria MCLEOD (nee HAGERTY). Kenneth was born in Harrow, his siblings in Chetywnd and his parents were married in Edenhope. Would dearly love to hear from anyone who knows anything of this family. Regards Mandy Mount Gambier SA jfmkj@dove.net.au
In answer to Beryl's call.... I am looking for descendants of Joseph Henry & Stella Maud IBBS who died in Kerang in 1956 & 1967 respectively, and Albert Ernest & Esther Louise SPENCE who died at Cohuna 1954 & 1960 respectively, and Alan & Clara May KERR who also died at Kerang, (dates unknown). Is anyone connected to or researching any of these families? Would love to share notes if you are or if you have any info on these families. Regards, Margaret in Terang. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Legitimation of Children by Registration Office of the Victorian Government Statist, Records Office, Queen St Melbourne 24th January, 1913 Dear Editress, I beg to direct your attention to the sub-joined paragraph relating to an Act recently passed providing for the legitimation of children, which may be of interest to the readers of your paper. - Yours & c A.M.LAUGHTON Government Statist Under the porvisions of an Act providing for the legitimation of children born out of wedlock, passed on the 31st December, 1912, the previous Act was repealed, and now the birth of any child born in Victoria before the marriage of the parents may be registered by the father at any time after such marriage, provided there was at the time of the birth no legal impediment to the marriage, and the child referred to shall be entitled or be declared to have been entitled to all the rights of a child born in wedlock. Hi Beryl & all MIRAM PIRAM was the place my BATESON ancestors settled in 1880. Before that they were farmers at KALKEE north of Horsham from about 1875, but originally were labourers and then small farmers in squatter heartland in Western Districts - Henty. Some names include ; BATESON, SCHMIDT, WATERS, GOULD, RIDEOUT, SMART, COUTTS, HARRISON, From West Wimmera. Please send me stories about West Wimmera pioneer settlers, especially from Kalkee and in Kaniva District. Regards Lyn Bateson
Hello Listers, I would be interested to hear from anyone interested in the following names in these localities BOYD, Alexander, Lachlan, Alan and John COWAN CRAINE John Philip MCKENZIE MCLEAN Murdoch NICHOLLS, Francis, Nicholas and Martin PENNY POTTER Mercy RADFORD Edwin if you had a musical family living in Boolite at the turn of the century, a photo of the Boolite Brass Band can be seen here http://www.optom.unsw.edu.au/public/bbhistory/boolite/B'lite-1896.htm and this is our unsolved mystery : In the year 1880 as the Penny family moved with pack horses from North Rhine in S.A. to Boolite in the Wimmera, the patriarch of the family Thomas Penny, died. His death is not registered in SA or Vic. I have found no will, probate info or letters of Administration in either state. Many years ago a family member had the foresight to write down the recollections of one of the grandsons of Thomas (who also made the trip) But the story says Thomas Penny was buried at Nerum along the way. I can't find a place called Nerum The Mortlock Library suggested that it might have been Miram, but I have been unsuccessful in finding any records for that time for Miram, or a burial there. Regards Marcia Penny Geelong

Hello Friends, To take up Beryl's excellent idea: My town is ECHUCA ...... where my THOMPSONs settled in the late 1860s, and near where my MADDERNs selected land at MILLEWA about 1870. John and Miriam (nee Eldridge) Thompson had "The Temperance Hotel" ...... and their eldest son, John, was a Mate on a paddle steamer when he was killed ...... and their next son, William, was a paddle steamer Captain. A daughter, Barbara Weymouth, had the "Coffee Palace". Kindest Regards ...... Corinne. > Hi All > > I've had a few comments about how quiet the List is of late.
