Hello All, I hope somebody can find my missing LAMBs. Rose Kelly evidently married a Mr Lamb about 1880-1890, and had four daughters Alice, Rose, Kitty (could be Catherine after her sister in law), and Anne. I have a photo of two of these girls taken in 1909, at a family wedding in Bendigo, and they look about 15 - 20, but that is a guess. I can find no record of any marriage or births of these girls. Can anyone help? T.I.A. Hi All, I have been out of action due to a faulty Key board. I have a new one now and can do alot more with it. I have a list of the first fifty two families to settle in Hahndorf, South Australia. I think I may have posted this before or maybe to another List. Anyway, some of you members may like a copy. I also have the book "A Ton of Spirit" Australian Centenarians. 1888-1998. The book Lists all their names and photo's of most of them. If anyone wants a look up I can do so. Regards, Leonie.
Hi All, More From the Mail. Friday March 13 1903 DEATH OF DR. FAIRBAIRN The Booroopki district has lost by death a very old resident in Peter Fairbairn, M.D. L.R.C.S.His end was painfully sudden. At about midnight on Friday last he rose from his bed and with lighted candle in hand went to the room of Mrs. Smith, sister-in-law of Mr. A Crabtree, at whose place he resided. He complained of pain in the region of the heart and asked for some stimulant. This was given him, and he lay down and shortly afterwards expired. Information was at once sent to constable Sargeant, of Goroke, and a magisterial enquiry was on Saturday conducted by Thos. Jelbart, J.P. who returned a verdict of death from natural causes. Deceased was born in Edinburgh 73 years ago, and took his diploma in 1856. He than served in the navy and subsequently in the army as surgeon, a post which he occupied on the man-of-war "Indus" in the West Indies in 1870. About 30 years ago he voyaged to Australia as a Doctor on a sailing vessel. For a time he was employed on Mount Elgin Station, near Nhill, and afterwards practised his profession at Lochiel, and subsequently at lawloit, Goroke and Apsley, finally settling at Booroopki 11 years ago, where the residents subsidised him. He was an excellent surgeon, and especially skilled in children's ailments. To those unable to pay for medical assistance he was ever ready to make allowance, and but for a failing which has brought about the downfall of so many gifted men would have become eminent in his profession. The death will prove a great loss to his people of Booroopki, who will now be compelled to travel long distances for medical aid. Deceased's remains were interred in the Minimay cemetery on Saturday last, the funeral arrangements being in the hands or Mr. T Jelbart........ Regards, Daryl Crabtree, C.Q.
Hi All, I have very little in the way resources to assist others. I just obtained the book "The Pentonvillains" I have a copy of "Pioneering Days in Western Victoria", by J. C. Hamilton it is good reading. I heard that his sister wrote a book based on the day books of Bringalbert Station. Does anyone know what the book is called? and where a copy may be obtained? I was told that the day books of Bringalbert were subsequently destroyed some years after, by SOMEBODY, makes me mad that does. Is Bringalbert pronounced, Bring-al-bert, or, Brin-gal-bert (bringlebert)? My g grandfather Abraham Crabtree built the first Woolshed on the station, which, I was told, burnt down in 1900. Regards, Daryl Crabtree C.Q.

Hi there fellow listers, This has really given me a kick start to look through what I have got on my bookshelves. I do not have the vast collections that some are fortunate enough to have accumulated obviously over many years but found a couple that may be of some use to others. They are all around twenty years old, so some of the details about contacts obviously will be out of date but other than that hopefully the information should still be useful. 1.. Family and Local History Sources In Victoria, Custodians of Records Blackburn 1983. It lists various things but these two were what I found the most interesting. Lists church records when they started in each district by denomination for burials, marriages, baptisms. Victorian cemetery transcriptions held at the AIGS and the GSV as at 1983. 2. Genealogical Research Directory, Australasian Edition Part 1 and 2 1981 Regional and International Edition 1985 I know these are old but thought there may be someone that has finished researching your family name that could be of some help. 3. A New History Of Australia, Edited by Frank Crowley 1984 reprint. Lists events and items about more prominent people in our history. 4. We Discovered An Island, Stephen Yarrow, 1980 One of its interesting items is a list of how names were given and who by of the coastal features of Australia . Early Encounters 1606-1628 Shipwrecks and Exploration 1627-1737 Surveys and Settlement 1738-1814 Completing the Picture 1815-1939 5. Everyone Has Roots, Anthony Camp, 1978 6. Roots and Branches - Ancestry for Australians, Errol Lea-Scarlett, 1979 7. Tracing Your Family Tree, A.G. Puttock, 1981 8. Ancestors For Australians, GSV, 1981 9. Scottish Roots, Alwyn James, 1981 I am willing to do lookups in any of these books at any time, sometimes there may be a few days delay as I tend to have ongoing computer problems, but will do them asap. Diana in Perth WA
Hi, Thanks to those who have requested lookups. Please be patient, as I will be out all day today, and may not get back to the computer until tomorrow. Thanks, Jan MacDonald

Hi everyone, I am afraid I don't have many books of relevance to north-west Victoria, but I am happy to do look ups in the resources below.
