Regards Dianne -----Original Message----- From: Sinclair [mailto:sinca@hdc.com.au] Sent: Tuesday, 10 April 2001 20:15 To: AUS-VIC-NORTHWEST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-VIC-NorWest] RAFFERTY GLENPATRICK (near ELMHURST) Hello to everyone, I am new to the list and am looking for any information, memorabilia or photographs of RAFFERTY'S of GLENPATRICK (near ELMHURST) My great grandfather Peter was a miner/farmer at Glenpatrick in the late 1800's and some family members remained there for many years afterwards. Peter also had a brother (Patrick) that arrived in Australia with him in 1862, but they parted and very little is known about Patrick, mention has been made that he went to the Western District. Other names associated with RAFFERTY are: JOSEPH (Greenhill Creek, Lexton and Avoca) RATIGAN (Ampitheatre, Mountain Hut, Glenpatrick) CROFT (Elmhurst, Landsborough area) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding RAFFERTY'S as we possess very little. 1. [AUS-VIC-NorWest] Nathalia or Barwo?
    2. Donald Stanley
    3. Hi everybody I was just wondering if someone could clear up something up for me. According to an article I read about the history of Nathalia, it used to be called Barwo, up until 1885 (or thereabouts) until it's name was officially changed to Nathalia. We have all kinds of ORR family certificates, CD indexes etc that seem to interchange these names at the drop of a hat, and most of them well after this so-called name change date. So what's the real truth behind all this, and do other researchers encounter the same problem? We thought we actually had two different towns, and it still actually looks like that. Any help with this mystery would be appreciated. Kind regards Donald Stanley

    1. [AUS-VIC-NorWest] Carolyn's URLs
    2. Beryl O'Gorman
    3. Hi All In the light of all the hot air that has passed through Cyberspace in the last week or so, you will be pleased to know that Carolyn Harris will be uploading her list of URLs each week to both of our Lists - Western District and Northwest. Carolyn has at least 3 000 URLs available on floppy disks with various other bits and pieces which you can read about below, and as she uses all profits from the sale of these disks to make more indexes and information available free to everyone I'm giving you the details here. Info from the horse's mouth (and a very nice horse at that) follows: Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia Warm and Friendly List Admin *************************************************************************************** Each Tuesday and Thursday night I log on to the net and check out all the URL's that were on the Lists I am on, the URL's that people like Gail, Alice etc send me, The new URL's going on to Cindy's List and various others. I save them in Word.doc and when I get over a page I give up and post them to some of the Lists that I am on. (or was on <g>) I then cut and paste them on to a master file in Excel and sort them in with all the other ones. This Excel file then goes on to my Starters Disks that I sell for $A5 if posted in Australia & $A12 if posted overseas including postage. On these disks are - Perpetual Calander, info on BDM certificates, charts to put your BDM info on, British Census Reckoner, Charts for Cemetery Extracts;Convict Records;IGI;Parish Reg. Burials, Marriages & Baptisms; Searches & Shipping, Date Calculator, Family Group Chart, Genealogy Definitions, Inquest Information, Pedigree Chart, Relationship Chart, and a write up on how to get started in Genealogy and of course over 3,000 URL's. Most of the charts I designed myself. Now the money from these Starters Disks gets banked and when I have enough I buy another resource that I use to help people on the net for FREE. You can find a list of these resources on my Tall Trees Family History web site. So now you all know how to get the previous URL's. The snail mail address is PO Box 4157 Myaree Business Centre, Myaree 6960 Western Australia Carolyn Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia Warm and Friendly List Admin
