Hello members of the AUS-VIC-NORTHWEST mailing list, currently hosted on Rootsweb/Ancestry servers. My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. I have no idea when it was abandoned nor who the previous admin was. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created on a person's whim in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. Cheers Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Maternal Ancestors are Joshua James & Susanna [nee Jones] Dickeson. With input from my family and other Family History Buffs, over time I have been able to added names and dates of many of the descendants of this couple. I would really like to add some images and stories, particularly for 2 Grand Children of Joshua James & Susanna :- [1] William [Bill or Billy] George Dickeson - Born 1868 , Mount Rouse Vic. to Joshua and Mary [nee Vaughan] Dickeson. William was married Circa 1900 to Edith Gardener – Born 1877 ? England. Edith died 1951 and William in 1955. Both buried at Donald. [2] Martha Dickeson – Born 1878 @ Donald : Died 1962. Martha was a younger sister of William. She did not marry. Memorial at the North Laen Cemetery shows her final resting site is with her father, Joshua Dickeson and her brother Edward Leonard Dickeson [my Grandfather]. Hoping some one can assist. Hoping someone is researching or connected to these families. I am seeking information re descendants of Anne Elizabeth nee Dickeson [1849 : 1937] and Alfred Gladman [1842 : 1890]. With 5 daughters and 5 sons from this marriage many other families are connected. One of the daughters Ethel Gladman married William Farrell - this is the basis of my current search. I have 2 photos that I am seeking ID of individuals - both photos have scant info recorded on the back :- [1]... -- Haddock, formally Gladman, nee Dickeson & ........ Farrell--. This image is of 4 females ? Four Generations. [Following Alfred Gladman’s death Anne Elizabeth married again to Thomas Haddock] [2]... -- ”Alexa” Farrell, Margaret & others -- Four people in this image, a young couple holding an infant standing behind a seated older lady. Any assistance would be appreciated. T.I.A. ................ Gloria.
Seeking assistance from anyone researching FUNCKE and DICKESON families from Wimmera area [North Laen - Minyip - Donald]. I have a Wedding photo of “Abe” Funcke & Edna nee Dickeson and would really like to be able to add some details. Any information would be appreciated. T.I.A ........ Hi Allan Obviously they're a bit behind the times with their info, as Cohuna's has been photographed and available on application to us like yours is, and Kerang's has been photographed and is available on-line at the Gannawarra Shire site. This was the lady I was doing that Bertram/Barton research for when I visited your Centre. Dear List, Inspired by the resent post on photos of Maryborough folk, I tried posting a jpeg and a request, but it didn't come through, so trying again (no image). The image was taken of my great uncle, Ltn. Joseph Richard PASCOE, in his military uniform, sometime during WW1. This was the only photo the family had of him. It was hanging on a wall in the RSL branch in Maryborough, and they kindly provided me with this photo (of a photo). He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, and was a Lieutenant in the 46th AIF Battalion. I would dearly like to have a copy of the original photo. Also, the family story is that, as he had no descendants, his medals were given to the Maryborough RSL, after he died at the Repat. Hospital in Heidelberg, in 1975. However, Maryborough RSL have no record of the medals. Some further information on Joseph Pascoe: Joseph Richard Pascoe was the 9th and second last child of John Henry PASCOE (1851-1927) and Mary Ann SHUGG (1855-1933), and born in Maryborough in 1894. Both his parents were of Cornish extraction. "Joe" married Olive Jane Elizabeth COLE in 1916. She was known as "Ginny" and was born at Carisbrook in 1898, and died in 1980, at Kew, in Melbourne, and her parents were John COLE and Annie Maria COUSINS. Joe and Ginny Pascoe lived in the Maryborough area, and had one child, a daughter, Jean Olive PASCOE, born in 1917 at Carisbrook. Sadly she pre-deceased her parents in 1941, aged 24. Joe served in WW1 with the rank of Sergeant, and later Lieutenant, in the 46th Battalion in the Australian Infantry, service No.2535. He received a Distinguished Conduct Medal on the 11th August 1918, for conspicuous bravery and leadership during the attack on Hamel. Action for which commended: On the 8th August 1918, his company was held up by heavy machine gun and rifle fire coming from Richmond Wood. As Platoon Commander, Sgt. Pascoe pushed his Lewis gun forward to a commanding position to give covering fire, while he led his platoon forward to attack. They succeeded in pushing the enemy out of their position, allowing the rest of the company to advance. Later in the battle, he discovered an enemy machine which had taken up position to trouble the attacking party. He crept forward with 2 men through the wood, to capture the enemy machine gun placement. After a fight in which 2 enemy were killed, he captured the gun, and took 2 enemy prisoner. This N.C.O. set a very fine example of fearlessness and determination and kept wonderful control over his platoon. I would very much like to hear from anyone who may have any photos of Joe Pascoe, particularly the image attached to this email, and if at all possible I would like to track what happened to his medals. Any information will be much appreciated. On that note, would anyone know if the Distinguished Conduct Medal would have been inscribed with his name and the date of the award? A long shot, but you never know. With kind regards to all, from Rowena
Hi Sharon, There is an excellent book called "Pioneers of Wagga Wagga" published by the Wagga Wagga Family history society (from memory). I saw it in the Victorian State Library a few years ago. If you are lucky, you might find something on the STEPHENS family in the book. If not, you could also contact them to see if they can help (Google for contact details). Hope this helps. Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. I will be in the area on the 13th/14th October so yes, Jenny I will call into the Society. Kerang sounds great Robyn! Thank you for the links Liz. It's disappointing to hear there are none of the older Barton headstones but being able to photograph the area where they lived will be a bonus! I am particularly interested to know if a headstone (if there was one) of JULIUS RICHARD BERTRAM survived. He married AMELIA ANN BARTON in 1881. His death is recorded in Cohuna 1905. Once again thanks to everyone Sharon -----Original Message----- From: Jenny Bottcher [mailto:jennybee@cybanet.net.au] Sent: Tuesday, 30 September 2014 6:59 PM To: Sharon Jameson Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC-NORTHWEST] Cemeteries in Cohuna, Koondrook and Kerang Hello Sharon You did well. I work with Cohuna Historical Society and was one of the original cemetery transcribers, both register and headstones. If you are coming to Cohuna please come and visit our Centre as we've had a few other Barton/Bertram/Osborne visitors (a couple from New Zealand) with similar requests so have collected a variety of info. Our family own the farm next door to Barton land at Gannawarra as well as one of their original selections - they had three. Hope this helps, though there are no headstones for the older Bartons. Kerang cemetery is fantastic to search. Go to the information booth attached to the caretakers shed. They have a computer touch screen which is searchable by surname. They also have a map of the cemetery and all the areas are easy to find. Each row in the lawn section is clearly numbered. You can also drive around inside the cemetery providing there isn't a funeral of course. If only all cemeteries were this easy. Enjoy your trip.
