Dear Doug, I have found great help from the following website http://land.vic.gov.au/ It has an interactive map (of Victoria) and allows you to search for a piece of land and then print out a copy of the details. You can also request copies of Certificates (current, not historical) which relate to the land. I don't know if this will help you but it may be useful to others.
