Verdict to the effect that the child had been deserted or exposed, but whether living or not as the time is not shown by the evidence. The portions of the body found in the first instance appeared to have been carried into the scrub by dogs; about 500 yards further in was found a calico bag tied with a piece of pink ribbon, containing rags saturated with blood, and close to it the skull and blade bones of an infant. Appearances seem to indicate that at this spot the birth had taken place and that the body had been partly devoured by dogs or pigs. Additional enquiries are being made. 20.3.01861 William Turland has been arrested by the Ovens police for deserting his fmaily 20/3/1861
