An Inquest - 20/12/1869 An inquest was held on the 19th and 20th November and concluded on the 11th instant, at Wangaratta, Benalla District, on the body of a man name unknown, but supposed to be John Clarke, who died on the 19th November at Wangaratta from the effects of strychnine, adminstered by imself; verdict accordingly. He had been 2 or 3 days at Wangaratta and had been drinking heavily. He is suposed to have been English, a cook, aged about 40 5'7" stout build, 11 or 12 stone, full features, dark brown hair full light brown whiskers, beard and moustache; wore light tweed shooting coat, moleskin trousers, scotch-twill shirt and bluchers. His swag contained some blankets and clothing. He was followed by a sheep dog. ====== 24.12.1869 Henry Power, alias JOhnson ((((sometimes spelt with a "t") is identical with Jenry Johnstone, ticket f leave holder illegally at large. (refers here to Page 137 in 1862 and arrested page 212 1864) He is also identical with Henry Jones, who about the year 1856 was tried for the murder of a boatman named Owens. ====== Stolen from Johm McCallum Indigo Ovens, 16/121/689, various goods including jewellery. = Stolen from William Fry near Beechworth. TAken from his stable, harness and other goods. 24/12/1869 = Inquest at LIvingstone Creek on the body of a man who had given his name as JOhn Myers who died in the hut of Robert Harris shepherd at the Gap Hut OMeo 25/10/1869 from disease of the hart. ahd been in Beechworth Hospital 9 months but this seems doubtful. He was a German, about 40 5'10" medium build, dark complexion, hair and whiskers, short dark moustahe; 23/12/1869. ============
