January 3rd 1867 AN inquest was held on the 27th December at Echuca, on a fire by which the River Murray Hotel was totally destroyed on the 23rd, when the jury returned a verdict to the effect - That there was no evidence as to the cause of the fire. It is supposed to have been the result of an accident - 2nd January1867. COURT the next circuit - Beechworth Thursday 11 April GOLD ESCORT SERVICE FROM and after the 1st January proximo, no gold or treasure whatever will be carried by the Police Department to Melbourne, from Rutherglen, Chiltern, Yackandandah, Buckland, Bright, Jamieson, Wood's Point or any other place. Sufficient police guards will be furnished, if requested three days previously, on the first Wednesday in each month, from Jamieson and Beechworth, and on the day preceding the first Wednesday in each month from the other places to persons conveying gold or treasure, and desirous of such protection.
