Today I received information from the Police HIstorical Unit (V ictoria) on a fewmen who served in Beechworth area. I list the names below, if any are yours I am happy to share what little information I received. The very nice letter I received enclosing this information told me that as from 5/7/1999 Vic Police members' Record of Conduct and Service Sheets are not available for copying due to restoration of these vital records. My request was filed to await the time these records became available again. If anyone is interested in the police service records, you can still view them by making an appointment. Meanwhile here are the names - John Sadleir John R. Scott Henry Casey Kennedy McIntrye John Assip Edward Graham and or/ Graham Edward if same guy he resigned and joined again and finally James Lynch. Not much, but every little bit helps....get in touch if yours. Denise
In the process of researching a family line, I've acquired a substantial Police employment Conduct and Service Record of Mortimer Edward McCARTHY, born Melbourne Melbourne 1854, died Prahran 1929. He married in 1881 Martha LAWRENCE (originally SNIP, born 1861 Porepunkah). He was formerly a "Waiter and farm labourer". His Police Record from 1876, whilst not brilliant (!) is intriguing as he served at Ballarat (then was transferred to the North East in November 1879 "for special duty re the Kelly gang"), Bright ("Extra, special duty re Outlaws"), Barnawartha, Chiltern, Bright , Yackandandah, Myrtleford, Everton, Russell Street, Kew, East Melbourne and retired in 1912 as Officer in Charge at Sandringham. If anyone is connected to this man or has an interest, let me know.
