Denise, Scotch College, Melbourne opened in October 1851 in Spring Street. There is a bronze plaque set in the pavement in Spring Street to mark the spot. The college moved to its present location in Hawthorn in 1916. When I was a pupil there in the mid 1920s to mid 1930s, I remember a boy named Gemmell, I think he might have been Bruce Gemmell; he may have been an descendant of your man. It was common for sons and grandsons etc to follow on at the same school. There is a good history of the college published which lists many if not all the pupils who passed through the school; when I next visit the library, possibly early in the week, I will list the Gemmells that I find for you. So hang in there and I will get back to you. Regards, Peter Kelly
Hello Peter, Could I ask a very, very big favour of you, please? My father's first cousin, Francis Roy Thompson taught at Scotch College ...... I believe that he was the Art Master there. If you have time could you see if there is anything on him? Kindest regards ......
