Hello listers, When the Victorian Pioneer Cds first came out, I had an interest in Williamstown, and, by knowing the names of locals, I found 78 ways of entering Williamstown, including four which began with "S" and dozens of entries for William spelt "Wiillliam", so it looked as though someone incorrectly made a macro key for William, but entered the wrong spelling. It was entries such as these that caused the registry to allow the work on corrections to be done. The replacement cdrom is almost typo free. However, one should say that the original people were under great pressure to complete the work to get it out to show state governments that it was possible, and opened the doors to the production in other states, from which we all benefit, and now take for granted. Ada hi I certainly hope you don't think I am in any way complaining about the Cd's.! If it wasn't for them, and my using them 2000km from the actual source, I would hve got as far as I have in what I am doing. I think they are a wonderful source, and it is amazing how you can find what you are after, other than the ordinary way of putting data in. Quite often it becomes a game. And take them for granted......no regards Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <aackers@alphalink.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 10:50 AM Subject: Re: [AVNE] BDM cds town spellings > Hello listers, > > When the Victorian Pioneer Cds first came out, I had an interest in > Williamstown, and, by knowing the names of locals, I found 78 ways of > entering Williamstown, including four which began with "S" and dozens of > entries for William spelt "Wiillliam", so it looked as though someone > incorrectly made a macro key for William, but entered the wrong spelling. > > It was entries such as these that caused the registry to allow the work on > corrections to be done.
