    3. Hi Denise and others, Having recently purchased Geoff Craig's book about the Three Mile district, I now know that the Post Office at the Three Mile (opened 1875) was called the Baarmutha Post Office. Does that mean your Hiram's house was out at the Three Mile, or does Baarmutha have another significance? According to the book the Three Mile district is bounded by the Beechworth/Myrtleford Road, the Murmungee/Everton Hills and the Wangaratta/Beechworth Road. 3. Jenny thanks for this. I wish I knew the significance of the name. Baarmutha the house is actually still standing and is in Beechworth near Baarmuth Park (the sports ground near the cemetery). Why it was called Baarmutha I have no idea given that the township/village was in the opposite direction. Baarmuth was also the name given to a fire engine Hiram bought in the US and gave/sold to the Fire Brigade. So there must be something about the name. In the meantime, does this book mention Black Springs which must have been close by. thanks Jenny Denise ----- Original
