Heather,'' I am not looking at the Gemmells as being amongst my rellies, but for another purpose. John, Dr. came to the north east of the state in 1840ish, lived in Wangaratta and Wooragee died in 1865. He was born in Scotland, but where I have no unearthed yet. Your message doesn't give many clues to go on Heathr. Where did they go, what were their names? Denise It would probably be the Melbourne one as from below it opened it 1851. Kathy Scotch College at Spring Street Scotch College is the oldest school in Victoria. Its foundation was due to the initiative of the Reverend James Forbes, who was the first settled minister of the Presbyterian Church in the State. It is 'the outcome of the old Scottish ideal of education', in which Church and School were inextricably connected. It opened on 1851 under the name of the Melbourne Academy in a small house in Spring Street, with Mr. Robert Lawson, a Scot from Edinburgh University, as the first Principal. Later moved to Hathorn where it still is today.
