Could anyone who has this book check these pages for a reference to Dr Gemmel for me please. Pages 120, 147, 158. and George or John Charles Read I don't have page numbers for them. Thanks, Anne
Does anyone know where a copy of this book might be for sale? It sounds very interesting and a useful source to fill in family background at the very least. Anne, Finally! Page 158: COREEN (Co Hume) Part of Collendina run. When first taken up by David Reid in 1841, drought compelled him to abandon it. It is said to have been taken soon after by Wilson but no certain record till 1850 when Huon and Drummond were in possession. They sold it to John Gammell (sic) of Wangaratta. ............... Gemmell sold to Ronald and McBain who held it in 1871 and sold to Hon. Henry Wilson, from whom it passed to Richmond. Sorry for the break in transmission, Anne. Coreen, in case you don't know, is north of Corowa, NSW. This book is worth a fortune, and from the looks of it, is commanding one to buy it. A facsimile copy at $100 is probably a bargain. Having seen both 1st edition and the facsimile, I feel the only (doubtful) benefit in getting the original is in the collector's value, and the one (fairly ordinary) photo of a painting of the original Bontherambo Homestead. It surely is time for a further facsimile edition?
