    3. As part of my preparation for researching when in Beechworth etc etc I am trying to get together some ideas on what to look for in relation to finding out more on the women in the families. I am hoping that some of our listers, including those who are joining the circus could perhaps join in this thread. What would you look for when researching/where would you look 1. Women's guild at the churches 2. Hospital committees 3. LIbrary membership 4. Perhaps church choirs - church records 5. Temperance movements 6. 7 How about giving up some ideas for research - we may all be able to find something. Another idea I have is, if one of us is actually searching and gets copies of rates/records of any kind, then if any of the names are on these lists are relevant to others on the circus we could share at our dinner table etc etc. Any other ideas? Denise

    3. Denise - Isn't it sad? My grandmother's obit - wife of ..... who was .....and ..... . Not a word about her efforts at bringing up 9 children, knitting khaki helmets for out fighting boys, WW2. From the Ringwood FHS I did find an entry from a local paper about a fund raising fete. 'Mrs Bert Dawes had the produce stall.' (or words to that effect!) Education Department archives could be a good place - I understand there is a library which keepers records of past staff members. There could be a listing of A.W.A.S. I wonder did they have service records, like their male counterparts. NAA could be a starting point for those. But by and large, the C20th emerged as the Women Exist century. BTW - was your list doing GEMMEL (?sp) I deleted them, thinking I had no interest. Now I find I have a family of GEMMILs as a lateral line. Be glad to share info. Happy Valentines Day - yes, I know, and I love you too, and all the other nice listers!
